With so many young players and players capable in different positions, what is our best set up in the forward 50 and defensive 50?

I've noticed Mitch Brown is playing forward more now. 4 goals in the last three weeks, and 2 goal assists as well on Saturday. I like him up forward, CHF I think is a good spot for him. Kennedy at FF with Brown at CHF, is that is a good combination? With LeCras at HF and McKinley as another marking target. Naitanui resting in the FP and causing havoc as well would be nice.

It leaves Quinten Lynch without a spot in the forward line, but I like him in the midfield. Goes in really hard to get the ball, does alright when forced into the ruck as well, close to our best on Saturday. Think he gives good value there.

what is our best set up in the forward 50?

Brown has proven he can move the ball on quickly, which IMO, is the most important quality in a CHF. I'd put him there.

Kennedy has shown he can compete when the ball is not lace-out. The work he did against Hawthorn (and against Richmond) was just as important as NN's. He really pinned the Hawthorn defenders up against their own goals. He also scrapped hard to kick a couple of goals and is a reasonable kick at goal. He's proven, in better conditions, he's our best contested mark and the player best equipped to compete at the top of the goalsquare. I'd have him at FF.

I was annoyed that McKinley had been dropped this season and believed he is clearly our best lead and mark FF. I still think this, but watching McKinley tackle and chase against the Hawks, it has become apparent he realises that he cannot afford to be the weak defensive link in the forward line, and expect to get a game. His effort against Hawthorn, in the defensive aspects of the game, was excellent and Hawthorn had great difficulty moving the ball from defence.

We need a crumber, as everybody knows. Mark LeCras is not the man. Yes, he can perfrom the task, but he is capable of more and must be utilised in other areas. The young midfielders have been rotated through this position and have been ok at times and poor at other times.

NN has been a revelation as a crumbing, scrapping FP. The beauty of this set-up is opposition coaches have to put a ruckman on him. NN can tear opposition ruckmen to shreds at ground level. If they put a smaller player, i.e. Campbell Brown, on him, Woosha can plonk him in the goalsquare as a marking option. It really has the potential to make our forwardline lethal and very difficult to match up on.

I'd have Mark LeCras floating around the forwardline, where he feels he can be most dangerous. He has the football nous and skills in every facet of the game (although I'd like to see his tackles stick more often) to do what he thinks is best. Sometimes leading, sometimes crumbing but never going up in packs for hangs.

Stenglein has shown he can do a job as a defensive forward when required. He does the job well, because not only is he an naturally accountable type of player, but he is also a good mark overhead and pretty straight kick at goal. This means his opponent is forced to be accountable.

All we need now is a fast, highly-skilled tackling, crumbing and snapping machine.

Our forwardline was fantastic against Hawthorn. We had no weak links defensively and Hawthorn couldn't clear the ball. Conditions aided us in this regard and it will be more difficult to apply this kind of pressure in fine conditions, but this is what we must aim for.

Insert Jetta into the forward line..bang bang.

CHF: Lecras Brown McKinley
FF: Jetta Kennedy Natinui

The problem with having McKinley on a HFF is that his man would be running off him all day and be the one setting up play from the HBF for the opposition. The opposition coach would identify McKinley's defensive weakness and lack of speed and use his direct opponent as the conduit that the ball gets moved through to set up their forward play.
He needs to be more accountable defensively too, which ATM he isn't.
McKinley doesn't have the leg speed to play across HF and to lead up the ground. I'm unsure if he's got the tank to do that much work either.
That's some of the reasons why he should stay home in the forward 50 and play out of a FP.

If we happen to get Jetta, a HFF would be better suited for him IMO.
When Brad Ebert isn't on the ball, the HFF would be suitable for him too.
