Apart from the 2nd quarter where we appeared not to turn up , the boys played OUTSTANDING football in sometimes atrocious conditions. A 5-3 to 1-1 first quarter (apparently against a strong breeze) made it look like this was going to be a routing of massive proportions. Edwards, Goodwin, Hart, Bassett, Johncock and Reilly our best for the quarter. We played hard, attacking footy and made them work hard for their possessions.

The second quarter was a complete turn-around with Port booting 5-2 to our 1-3 - with our only goal coming against the flow of play in the final minutes of the quarter (a magnificent kick from Maric in the Tony Hall impossible-to-kick-em-from-here pocket!). It was almost as if we thought we'd done so well against the breeze it was only a matter of being there! Just shows you how much the "mental" side of things can effect this game.

Second half saw Crows at their brilliant best in absolutely pouring rain, booting 9-7 to 2-2. Thomson and Hentschell shone in the third quarter. While Edwards, Doughty, Thomson and others shone in the fourth.

Overall, our skills were miles ahead of Port.... our game plan and execution were exquisite. Best for the night for us: Edwards, Thomson, Hentschell, Johncock, Doughty and Hart (while others were substantial contributors).

Hentschell, Doughty and Thompson all kicked 3 goals a piece.

Final score:

Adelaide 15-13 (103) to Port 8-5-(53).

The first quarter was a continuation of last week. We looked in fine fettle with our hard running of the ball, hitting targets, getting men in space, always seeming to have more players at fall of the ball. Port meanwhile looked unfocussed, chipped sideways and backwards, a style that plays right into our hands.

We looked several classes above. At quarter time it looked like it could be really ugly, especially considering we were going into the wind in the first quarter.

I don't know what happened in the second quarter though. It was as if someone had reminded Port that this was a showdown and they responded accordingly. Despite our congesting of their forward line, Port's ability to simply get it forward proved good enough. They found targets, snapped with accuracy and how Mahoney, the smallest guy in a crowded goal square took a chest mark in a pack I'll never know...

Rain had been coming down in the first quarter but I think it intensified in the second quarter (or at least continued, to make the game sloppier), which didn't allow us to play the same running game. They hit the front but we regained the lead before half time thanks to Maric hillariously kicking into the man on the mark then recovering the ball to slot one from the pocket.

At half time you felt that they'd given us a head start with their non-show in the first quarter, yet had almost completely pulled it back in the second quarter. Didn't look good. Though in hindsight regaining the lead probably helped to deflate their momentum a bit.

The second half saw rain, rain and more rain. A real slop. And the breeze no longer favoured any particular end. A goal apiece early in the third quarter (us then them), before we strung a few together. From which we never looked back. Players like Edwards and Thompson really stood up in trying conditions. The fact that we really had to fight for this one in the second half (as opposed to the breezy game we thought it might be early on) made this win all the more satisfying.

That's about as much detail as I can be bothered going into right now, I'm sure there's a few others willing to contribute...

Thanks for the game reviews.

I'm spewing, power has just come back on here after over 18 hours off, so couldn't listen to the game over the net.

Glad to see we got up, Maric made his debut, and Hentschell found some form.

Excellent.

And the Truck re-paid the confidence by picking up 19 touches :D

In all fairness to Tredrea, he looked very underdone. Truck caught him out a number of times by running off him and Tredrea didnt have the fitness to run with him.

Not trying to take anything away from Truck's game because it was a pearler. :thumbsu:
