Gary Ablett signed?

This is all media manipulation.

The AFL can not afford for the GC to appear to not have any star at this point in time. The doomsayers will have a field day.

Fact Ablett did not pay for his 150k holiday os.
Fact Ablett has signed a MOU with GC, but has an exit clause for him.

He is not the player to lead a team, as he is too emotional and will show emotion when the 18 year olds are not up to it. He is not a media star, he likes the media but is not a warm character. Over estimates his ability.

He will be a legend of the game if he stays at the Cats, will be another very good player if he leaves. He will not be considered in the elite of the AFL.

The decision is really simple, he takes the $$$ and has to work his ass off on and off the field. He will not have it easy. And he will be hated by some supporters. Marketing wise not as valuable. (he can not use the Judd line of coming home).

or

He can take less cash, look like a hero, end up as a true legend of geelong. And he will earn more money after football. Less stress, and still a hero.

Last week, Alastair Lynch wrote an article for Courier Mail with headline 'Gary Ablett heading to GC'. (words to that effect)

On the Couch, Lynchy was replacing globetrotting Hirdy, and walked into the ambush that Lynchy had set for himself, albeit from the eyrie of the Gabba's confines.

Healy's first order of business - "Now Lynchy, is that headline true? Do you have information that the rest of us don't have privvy to, given that you are a player manager?"

Alastair proceeded to pedal, sideways and backwards!
Mike Sheahan reminded him that he had put his name to the article.

Sensing Lynchy's unease, and his furtive 'did I do my shoelaces' look, Healy and Sheahan decided to move on, having got their NO ANSWER - ANSWER.

So, Heals and Sheahan brought up one of Lynchy's commentating gaffes on the weekend game. No doubt, at this point, Alastair is weighing up the message of his media mentors;

1) Pull your head in, young fella
2) Decide what you want to be - a commentator, manager or sports writer
3) Don't ever confuse the three again
4) Don't allow one to cloud your judgement in the other
5) Its our job to poke the kettle, not yours.

Are we any wiser re GAblett? In the land of the player managers 'speaking between the lines', I'd say that the NO ANSWER- ANSWER is as good an indication we'll get, till God's son does a press conference. ;)

Sounds like he was made to look very foolish, which it isn't a first for Lynch, and if he continues in the media, most certainly won't be the last.

I think anyone close to club sources would have heard Ablett has signed.
I've had it from 3 pretty senior people at the club.
The question is "what does that mean?"
if you've ever signed a business contract you know the deal isnt done until the money and contracts are exchanged.
GAJr has done the right thing and left all his options open.
My opinion is he could unbalance the team psychologically, but if we got Bock as well with more tough fibre like Hunt there's a good chance of looking like finals next year.
As far as loyalty is concerned, it's 2010.
Ask Tyson Edwards what he thinks about being a single club servant.

Hahaha. Bullshit.

The only thing I will watch with Ablett if he does leave is how he reacts to losing. Geelong have lost about 10 of their last 80 games and every time Ablett has looked like he's about to go on a murderous rage every time. Be interesting to see that week in, week out, especially when you're getting pumped by 50+ points constantly and most likely getting manhandled by your former club as they roll onwards towards another premiership.
