Not aligned to an AFL club either. Great job for a standalone club. Shane Valenti, Wayde Skipper, David Fanning and ex Port rookie Nathan Batsanis all played.

and has still managed to keep that Mullet as long and flowing as it was a decade ago.

It was interesting seeing a bloke like crackers Keenan tear up too.

Also shows he has his own coaching nouse:thumbsu:

Yeah it's a fair feat at any level. Especially in their situation. Not sure it translates brilliantly into being a modern day coaching genius, but he clearly has some decent ideas.

There was never any doubt about Gary Ayers ability. It was his sustainability.

They had something like 18 ex-AFL listed players play for them this year, so not sure that non-alignment is a detrimental thing to be honest.

18? Really. I noticed about 7. John Baird doesn't count because he smokes. :D

It probably hurt them less than other clubs.

Would have there been that much difference if Ayres had of coached in 05/06 instead of Craig?

Probably. Change as good as a holiday, you know how it goes. There will likely be an improvement (not as dramatic as 05/06) next year with Sanderson as well, based solely on the freshness a new coach will bring.

Still, this is a fairly mammoth achievement by Ayres, he should be very proud :thumbsu:

Adam Bentick, Shane Valenti, Cory Mcgrath, Patrick Rose, Tristan Francis, Ryan McMahon, John Baird, Malcolm Lynch, Bo Nixon, Wayde Skipper, Jake Edwards, Hugh Sandilands, Adrian Bonnadio, Nathan Batsanis, Fabian Deluca, Chris Cain, David Fanning, Sam Pleming have all been on an AFL list.

And completely unrelated, but this bloke (Sebastian Henderson) is the wierdest looking human ive ever seen

That's amazing. Words fail me.

Re the others... Alot of Rookie spots in that lot?

McGrath, sandilands bentick and deluca. Forgot about them entirely.

He'd wanna be able to play.

Thing is, when you step out on to the field and you line up against him, you know immediately he can play. He has to be able to play. There's no other way he'd be out there :o

Always beware the unusual looking ones, they're inevitably the best players ;)

The Cooney, Doull, Bartlett theorem?

Ayers stopped getting his message acrooss to the players, change was manadotory. He was somewhat isolated as a vic over here which didn't help,

Craig got a good run out of his senior players in the back half of 05 and had little changes in the side when we set up a club record 10 straight wins.He shawed up the defense first and built on that.
In 06 he introduced the press as we know it today and we were a class above everyone as they had neither the tactics or fitness to deal.

Until injury after injury(some shocking collision injuries) after injury masacared us, then we run into Commandant Goldspink and needle freak Cousins. I recall an interview from Van berlow who Cousins burned off in the second half the 06 prelim, its surreal with what we know now.

Ayers time was past.

Thanks. I wasn't going to read the article in The Age titled "Port standing tall after real show of strength" but now I can without feeling dirty.
