It was arguably Wells' worst draft although he Hawthorn did worse. Selwood was a no-brainer, Hawkins was a f/s and Lonergan was a deal done after his kidney operation. In other words all of the picks that he actually had a choice on, none turned out any good.

I would give Hogan a pass myself, considering he was a pretty late pick and the quality of the side that he had to crack into (which he did as a semi-regular in 2009-10). His off field issues aside, if a team like Melbourne had called his name out, he probably would have been on about 60-70 games by 2011. And Selwood might have been a no-brainer, but all those other teams still passed on him...someone had to pull the trigger. Might as well have been us. Considering the players taken immediately after Selwood (such as Reid, Armitage, J.Riewoldt, Frawley, N.Brown), it's a fair bet we would have picked up something pretty decent.

Read the article , its amazing how well it reads.Gees its sound like have a future champ. I can remember Thorp playing that year and I thought was going to be a player. But as we have said so often , more to than just talent.

Looking back now , it ranks up there with the Pavlich non-pick by Richmond. Imagine ( I feel sick saying it)..imagine Selwood in a Hawthorn jumper. Does anyone think they wouldn't have been a tougher opponent. They may just have more than one flag in this period.

I will say it now. That decision cost them a flag maybe even two. Can you imagine him and Mitchell bossing all the other midfields around! Thank Christ they ****ed up on Kennedy too!
