Gas and Electricity

Boring topic but if it something that keeps going up. Just wondering on who people use? I see Dodo offer 30% off if you pay on time. Also has anyone used a site where they compare the companies for you?

I treat this the same as insurance, and do a yearly review and shop around. Only takes 1 lunchtime per year (surprising that you aren't kept on hold for very long if you a potential customer, but try to call to dispute a bill......), and happy to disclose to all the companies each others rates. % discounts are good if the charges are in line. They become irrelevant if your usage charges are exhorbitantly higher.

This year I renegotiated AGL down on their usage charges again, to the point that they were exceeding what Red Energy could offer even after their discount, as well as Simply, Dodo, Origin and Powerdirect.

All areas are different though. Myself (live in Essendon), my boss (Elsternwick) and another guy here at work (Box Hill), all managed to get the same kw/ph rate for our electricity accounts through AGL, but another guy here (Keilor) couldn't get it at all. He managed to get Red to give him rates better than ours, but Red wouldn't come to the party for us. Not sure why this is the case, but definitely a job worth investing a little bit of time in to.

I used Energywatch a few years ago, but I was sceptical about their affiliations with energy providers, and am convinced you get better deals if you put in a little time yourself.

Do the same with your insurance companies too.

Not having a good time with alinta, only two people in the house and bills are up 500+ each all year, this isn’t right, we haven’t changed our consumption and last year was average 300-350 so I’m ready to give them the arse!

I hate places like iselect as they just bombard you with crap!

Question is who is the cheapest/fairest/affordable gas and electricity provider in vic ?

I use Tango. The Vic Energy Compare website was super helpful

First 6.57534 kWh per day, 19.360 cents per kWh
Remaining peak usage, 17.270 cents per kWh
Daily Supply Charge, 133.804 cents per day
Standard Feed-In Tariff, 15.00 cents per kWh exported

Tango. I work in the energy industry.

But be careful when choosing a 2nd/3rd tier company because with the upcoming rate change in Vic, these really competitive offers may not last. Those companies need to make that money back somehow...
