Gasper

He should be playing reserves. I think frawley had him there in case on of the hawk talls went beserk and kicked a bag early on. More of a safeguard than anything else. As it happens, we killed hawthorn in the first 15mins and he wasnt needed.

lol shredder, the guy is playing awful footy this year, but his confidence might come back if we can all just spell his name right! remember people GaspAr.

This over-ratexd arshole should take a pay cut.
His best footy is so far behind him it's a distant memory.

If he gave a toss about the club he would but imo he's
only out there for himself at the end of the day.

The guy is alergic to dust ffs.
How durable is that?

Get rid of him at the end of this year if he doesn't take a cut.
(contract allowing)-whatever,just dont re-sign him.

there is no way Gaspar would take a pay cut. He has never sacrificed for the sake of the RFC and never will (notice that on the few occasions the team get to sing the song at the end of the match, he is the one that always looks the most bored?)

When his contract expires at the end of 2005, it is time for the RFC to do some srewing around of its own. Watch Gaspars salary go from 600big ones to 200big ones overnight.

PS - what Richmond should be doing is lodging a compensation application with the Victims of Crime. We have been robbed blindly by him and we should be compensated.

Gaspar has beaten a few notable opponents in the past when it comes to spoiling a contest, but he is far, far away from a great. He has also dropped a lot of marks, and no Tiges supporter needs to be reminded about his disposal. Agree with all sentiments that he has been, is currently and will forever be extremely overrated. NO backman is worth what he is getting.

Who was the genius that decided to sign him up for 5 years on that sort of money? Slipped my mind for a second. Whoever it was, he should be horsewhipped.

Otto, you can blame Frawley for that one. He begged GaspAr to stay and offered him a blank cheque.

I'm sure now that Miller is responsible for that side of the business, GaspAr will be offered a reduced contract next time round more accurately reflecting his contribution. And he wont be as marketable as he was during his last contract negotiations.

Even I'm tired of myself slagging Frawley, but he's been the guilty culprit when it comes to overrating players. But back when all this was going down, could we have afforded to lose GaspAr? Would have been a brave man to let him go.

Yep,

Obviously all of you know exactly what each player is on! I remember when Fremantle offered him $500K a year for 5 years and Richmond and Gaspar both publicly said that the offer Richmond made was not as much as Freo, but he wanted the security of a longer contract so he was happy to stay at Richmond. Also he was one of the players that took a pay cut to get Brown to the club, but why should you let facts like that get in the way of bagging players and speculating on players salary and stating a figure like you know it is fact.

Ah Spud... why did I even ask! Hasn't really justified his extensive contract IMO. Realise he had a fairly good year that year, but his skills have never been up to what he finally got offered. Good luck to him though for taking us for a ride. Weren't we offered something fairly enticing anyway? Even a first round draft pick would have sufficed.

If Gaspar is getting more than a McDonalds employee or a street mime it is still too much.

I think you are forgetting someone here - our former CEO Mr Brayshaw. He had a lot to do with this contract and a number of others for that matter

Yeah, I'm sure a lot people had a hand in it. But I do remember Danny going round to Gaspar's house to lobby him directly, and he was pretty public about it at the time. And I'm sure back in those days the senior coach had the veto as to which players he wanted.

All's well with hindsight. And I'm sure the same ppl screaming abt Gaspar tday would have been screaming even more if they'd let him go to Freo.

I'm not such a big critic about Danny or anyone else paying Gaspar money to keep him at the club. I think he should be judged more by his decisions about other players such as Hudson, Sziller and King.

Was going to hit the driving range after work tonight, and not go to the pub for a change. Reading this post, I have once again changed my mind, and am going to drown my sorrows. Houlihan isn't far from being put in this basket I reckon.

I think freo were planning to take him with the number 1 pick in the pre-season draft, so we would have ended up with nothing.

how the hell could we get rid of him with 2 years remaining of the contract...he's a dual all aust , one of the best defenders in the game...still early days from big knee, be patient....he'll be firing come the second half of the year and be nice and cherry ripe for the finals ..as will coughlan

Yep and it turned out the money Freo were offering Gas would have taken them over the salary cap. I think it was the same year they took Fabian Francis when he was forced as a result to stay a year out of AFL footy which ended his career.

For everyone who wants to get rid of Gaspar.....

who would we play at CHB, from our current list?
- AK is a good second defender, Zantuck a good 3rd defender.
- Weller still has a lot to prove (doesn't look able to kick either, and is not blessed with height or bulk)
- Morrison is a forward as is Schultz.
anyone else???

who would we be able to get for CHB from elsewhere?

he may have been overpaid, but really, wake up!

I don't know of many ready made quality CHBs sitting around the phone waiting for a call from us - make do with what we've got and keep looking for our next CHB...but give it time (and none of this crap about "I've given it time..." see how mobile you are after doing a kneee AND RETURNING EARLIER THAN EXPECTED)

cheers
