Just thought i'd pass on some info that i received today, don't know how true it is but im lead to believe that Gavin Brown will be leaving to take up an assistant coaching role with North Melbourne under Brad Scott.

My source has been pretty realiable with other info coming from inside the Collingwood Football Club so i have no reason to doubt him. I for one hope its not true but i just thought id let everyone know.

I suppose time will tell if its true.

If this is true then I wish Gav all the best. It would be a step up from where he is now and he deserves every chance at becomming a senior AFL coach.

Never saw Gavin Brown as one to break a contract.

He has 1 year left as VFL coach as far as I know.

Only way this happens is if Collingwood agree to it, which they probably would anyway.

Best of luck to Gavin if it's true though.

Listen guys not trying to big note myself or anything and as i said i hope its not true cause Rowdy is a great Collingwood man but its just what im told and i thought id let the collingwood supporters on here know.

He has given Collingwood fantastic sevice for the best part of 20 years so maybe it is just time for him to branch out and experience a different football club. We certainly cant begrudge the man that. All the best Rowdy if its true.

I would hate to think that it is true, but he obviously can't hold out any hope of coaching Collingwood seniors for the next 5 years at least and after the service that he has given us for the last 20 odd years he deserves a chance somewhere. On the other side of the coin tho, Dean Laidley doesn't have a job yet and he could be a good replacement if we need one.

Hi all, just dropping by - love the sound of this but will wait and see before getting too excited. Pleased to see your comments, though, reflects the huge respect he's won over the years - I guess like Archer for us (and Rowdy was his idol), you can't quite imagine him anywhere else, but you'd wish him well whatever he chose.

btw Pies are my other club (it's a marriage thing, I haven't missed a game in over ten years) so I'm delighted to see some crossover - and really wish you all the best this week and for the finals.

Fantastic player but as a coach, nothing really to write home about.

If only we could get Alan Richardson back, he should have got a coaching job before Scott and Hardwick.

From what I hear, we can expect more staff to be targeted by other clubs.

We might see a fair few new assistants in the off season tbh.

Paul Licuria might be up for the VFL coaching job.

He's been an assistant there this year, and he's currently helping out with the midfield coaching of the senior side.

Sounds really odd to me. Why would he leave to be become an assissant at another club after being an assissant at Collingwood, then given the great opportunity and honour of coaching his own VFL team ... AND that team after ONLY 2 seasons will make the finals?? Doesn't make sense?

No real loss... you have to be kidding

Gavin was given the job as VFL coach for one specific reason.. to have players ready for the AFL. We started the VFL side so that when a player was dropped or recruited he was not coached by the likes of a Williamstown coach.

Gavin can take credit for many players coming through the ranks... dont under estimate his role and what part he has played in our success this year the guy is a Collingwood legend.

If true good luck to Brown. What about Buck's taking over the reigns? Cons are he wont have a consistent list to work with, but on the pro, he can have unimpeded control of the list to try out Bucks tactics. Sounds good to me.

I go to the VFL most weeks and I don't rate him as a coach. That is his role at the club now. So if he goes across to North , I am confident he can be replaced and even upgraded on.

I may be mistaken, but having once experienced the arrival of Nathan Buckley at the football club, could it be that he's not too keen a second time around?

Was Gavin stripped of the captaincy back then or did he step down?

it took a long while before Gavin lost the Captaincy to Buckley

Bucks came while shaw was captain, or the first year of brown as captain and then in Browns last year buckley took over the captaincy

I have the utmost respect for Gavin Brown, he's given so much to Collingwood over the years. I'd hate to see him go somewhere else, but if he does, I can only wish him well.

This. The way he put his head over the ball when he was brilliant & the way he went into packs when his skills started to leave him are forever etched in my mind. Such an admirable individual.
