Geelong Vs Brisbane - Changes and matchups

first off who are the bears????

so you think brisbane didnt have the quality???? brisbane already had the game won early on and it was 31 degrees so why waste energy when the game was won?

brisbane have more than 3 potential matchwinners

brennan can win a game by himself very rarely unfortunetly

and brisbane are no way near as brown consious as they where in the past

Bears.....Lions.....Whatever

No, they did not have the quality to obliterate the Dees when they had the chance. Blame it on the heat, blame it on a lackluster game, but the fact remains that they had a prime opportunity to smash the Dees and they didn't. Thus, they did not have the quality to do so.

Do you honestly think Brisbane put the cue in the rack when they knew they had it won? That is a pretty cavalier attitude for a team that will most likely be battling for a spot in the lower half of the eight. These positions are often decided by percentage. I bet that Leigh was pretty annoyed with what he saw.

Beyond Brown, Black and Bradshaw how many true matchwinners do you have? Brennan? Please. Apart from a great game against Collingwood last year (when you guys smashed them, and it could definitely be argued that this was due to a team effort rather than a "matchwinning" performance) against how many good sides has he really turned a match in Brisbane's favour or won a match?

No, Brisbane are not as reliant on Brown in the past, but how was that relevant to what I said?

I stand by my original post that Brisbane have not been overly impressive to date in 2008, and that a trip to Subi to play Freo is a bigger challenge than playing Brisbane at KP.

I am not saying that Brisbane have no chance, but I have to be honest, I expect Geelong to win and win well.

you obviously forgot to check brisbanes goalkickers while you where on footywire have a look you will be quite surprised

If you bothered to read the post mate you'll note that I was talking about midfield stats, how the lions weren't stacking up in that regard and said that if we cut off their supply they are going to struggle to kick a winning score against us

moons is due, and i think this will be his week

the mids will have a game and a half this week, as the lions don't have mids that play the man (ie freo)

the advantage this week is that their ruck will win, but will not be as dominant as last week, so our mids will have a chance

expecting the mummy to kick a few, and have a ripper, go mummy

Geelong seems to be big on match-ups at the moment, not a bad thing.

Based on the pre-season game Taylor will go to Brown (even though Brown was under done when they first met) and will get help from the other defenders.

Scarlett must go Bradshaw who is probably more dangerous than Brown at the moment.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Prismall come back into the side. Could be at the expense of Gamble. This one is more due to rotation of younger ‘fringe’ players and the fact that Skilled is tighter and likely to suit Prismall better than Subi would have (plus I suspect they want to get some more game time into him).

Or, he may come in at the expense of Mackie (who, IMO, has been ordinary in his last two outings). I don’t think Mackie will be omitted but him coming off the bench may not be a bad thing.
If Harley is injured and misses, Rooke (despite me not thinking he should on current form) seems the best replacement. With Egan already injured, missing Harley suddenly will test the depth of the list.

Ottens won't play this week according to the papers. May as well go with Blake and Mumford again. Sit Blake on the bench and let Mumford take first bounce (more as a rev for Blake rather than an endorsement of Mumford).

B - Hunt, Scarlett, Milburn
H B - Wojcinski, Taylor, Enright
C - Ablett, Bartel, Selwood
H F - S Johnson, Mooney, Kelly
F - Stokes, Hawkins, Chapman
1 R – Mumford, Corey, Ling
INT – Blake, Mackie, Prismall, Rooke

Out – Gamble (omit), Harley (inj)
In – Prismall, Rooke

I kind of feel that I’m a tall short (ha ha) but if it is wet and windy that might not matter.

If the cards fall that way, looking for Mackie and Rooke to have big ones. I’d say Prismall as well but I’d like to see Prismall get a couple of games in a row before saying it.

Gamble very unlucky but then same could be argued for Prismall last week.

Anyway, my 2 cents – rip it apart at your leisure.

moons is due, and i think this will be his week

I think Moons played his best game of the year against Freo - had his kicking boots on and delivered some pressure-relieving goals at crucial points of the match - kept his head too.

I agree though, we need a big bag from Moons this week - prove to us you've shaken off the kicking for goal yips!

1 R – Mumford, Corey, Ling
INT – Blake, Mackie, Prismall, Rooke

I would have a few changes ...

I think with Harley out we should keep mackie on the 1/2 back line to try and keep as much of our core together as possible. These players know how to work with each other and get the ball out of there.

Wojcinski isn't the most defensive player so I dont like putting him on any dangerous forwards line him up on the wing and get him to work back into defense so he can still provide the run through the middle.

Gamble should stay in the side. We only have 2 big forwards and gamble provides us another option forward as he is able to take a contested mark while still being good off his toes.

Corey could take Woj's spot on the wing but I would rotate him from the bench with selwood and ablett.
Chapman and Stokes can also have runs in the middle to relieve Bartel (or who ever) and can kelly can go forward (or on wing) for the resting player.

Rooke or Prismall into the side doesn't matter which up to the coaches but will give us a little more depth in midfield rotations.

B - Hunt, Scarlett, Milburn
HB - Mackie, Taylor, Enright
C - Wojcinski, Bartel, Selwood
HF - Johnson, Mooney, Chapman
F - Stokes, Hawkins, Gamble

R - Blake, Ablett, Ling

Int - Corey, Mumford, Kelly, Rooke/Prismall

THE WET WEATHER SPECIALIST

All this wet weather the idiot weathermen have been predicting has to come eventually.

If Saturday is the day then Geelong will be laughing their way to victory, as the Lions two greatest weapons will be severely hampered (Brown/Bradshaw).

are we safe with taylor on brown, if as suggested in previous posts scarlett goes to bradshaw???

pavlich had his way with taylor...imagine what big bad jonathon will do.

I would hope that Taylor wouldn't be left one out with Brown. If it is, could be trouble.

Geelong seem to zone off pretty well. If Brown has to come up the field to get his possies I can live with that.

Considering what Brown did to Scarlett last year after Egan went off injured I can't see what other match-up Geelong can go with.

yeah, but harley is usually the player that zones off and he could miss this week.

that is what worries me, if brown or bradshaw start going off then we lack the defensive man power to change things around.

Taylor's already done the job on Brown once this year. I say place some faith in the kid. He's been very good for us so far, has stepped up to the plate in the absence of Egan for mine.

I guess if Harley is out we'll just have to suck it up and see what happens. Still, Harley isn't likely to go to either Brown or Bradshaw so the same issue still exists.

Can't see Lonergan matching up on either of Brisbane's key forwards so Taylor will have to rely on Milburn, Hunt and, hmmmm, Mackie helping out.

I'll back Scarlett one out to win more than he loses but additional help is always good against quality forwards.

It'll be a good test.

Although I wouldn't mind seeing a wet day down at Geelong this weekend. ;)

I stand by my original case that for Brisbane to beat us, their under-performing midfield have to break ours and provide good, consistent, sharp delivery to Brown and Bradshaw. They're ranked last in virtually all the midfield stats that count and last in stopping their opponents in the same caetgories.

I can't see it happening. Give our boys some credit.

If Scarlett, Taylor and Milburn can't stop Brown/Bradshaw between them I will eat my 08 membership cap.

Didn't Brown kick something like 9 goals last year and we still won by 30 odd? Brisbane relies alot on Brown and Bradshaw. Close one of them down, and you have a good chance of winning. Its always possible Brennan is hios usual inconsistent self and has an awesome game, but who knows.

No it's not whatever it's the Lions u knobjockey:rolleyes:

Lighten up.

If I was posting on the LIONS board I would show a bit more tact, but this is the Geelong board. If you don't like it, then go away.

And anyway, I am a traditionalist, you will always be the Caramello Koalas to me.;)

Taylor played on Brown in the preseason and did very well. Got in front at nearly every contest. Coaches also gave him plenty of time one on one so it was even more impressive, no third man back for help. I think Brown finished with 2 for the match by memory, late goals IIRC.

I think it might be their defence that is under the pump on the day. Predicting Moons and Gamble to be active.

Yep. I suspect that we are going to have quite a lot of ball on Saturday. If it's wet then you'd expect Jimmy to have a day out - he wont be happy with his game last week, either!

We have too much class in the middle for them to outpoint us. Bradshaw will be a worry but I'd have my money on Scarlo to do a good job on him. If Jono gets a run on then things could get interesting, but they have to get the ball down there first.
