Just wondering when the AFL draw will come out? I thought it was meant to be today....

Anyway, Jake Niall wrote an article about the previews to the draw and there were a few interesting points...

Geelong, which had been drawn to play four home games consecutively at Skilled Stadium, has asked that the AFL spread out its eight games in Geelong, instead of having them in clusters.
This is something i didslike too, i think it was this season we had them all in clumps and in 2005 we had like 4 in a row (although that was mainly due to the redevlopments).

But the most striking feature of the provisional draw, which is unlikely to change greatly before the schedule is released, is that the clubs that play each another in the first seven rounds don't necessarily play each other twice.

This is an excellent move i believe, it will mean Collingwood for example may play Melbourne and Sydney twice a season...

Geelong has been given a home game against Collingwood at the MCG, along with two Telstra Dome games and its customary eight home games at Skilled Stadium.

:) This will be a big match, this seasons Collingwood home match attracted over 69,000.......with it being our home match i think 60k would be the minimum attendance (unless we are going ****e).

It will be interesting to see who the other two 'home' matches will be against, most likely the rumoured Rnd 1 clash v Footscray and hopefully either Essendon or St.kilda, although a home match v Richmond would be good (although it would attract quite a few more people if it were held at the MCG).

8 games at SS next year? Isn't it normally 6 games?
Has never been 6. Has been 8 for at about 6 or more years, and I think it was 7 for a couple before that.

The draw has been delayed due to last minute haggling between 7&10 and Foxtel for pay tv rights. Foxtel are wanting 4 games, but foxfooty wont be back if they get them.

So far;

R1 - Geelong vs Bulldogs, Sunday 1st April, TD, AWAY
R15 - Geelong vs Collingwood, Saturday 14 July, MCG, HOME

Playing the Pies at the 'G as a home game will be a nice little money spinner.

Maybe so but on the other side of the coin I am tired of seeing Collingwood get constant away games on the MCG. We are assisting them becomming richer and richer whilst also giving them less travel and more experience playing on a ground that hosts the finals.
I applauded StKilda for making the pies play at Telstra Dome this year and I would love to see the black and whites have to travel down the highway to skilled.
I understand the need for Vic clubs to maximise their earnings but I lament that we have to do this for Collingwoods benefit.
To underline this, why does every blockbuster game in Victoria feature collingwood?, because they draw the bigger crowds I hear you say, why do they draw the bigger crowds?, because the have been over-exposed for over a decade by getting blockbuster game status and most of the replays on the TV (if not live) into Victoria whilst all other Victorian clubs seem to revolve around their schedule. If we want to make it a more even competition then all the other clubs (not richmond or essendon) need to have these oppurtunities not once nor twice but several times so they have an oppurtunity to build bigger crowds.

Strange that the Hawks (probably) chose us to play down in Tassie, the away game between the two in Rnd 22 only got like 25k...but that was a nothing game......you'd think they would want to play Footscray or Melbourne down there b4 us.

Anyway, it will be our first game down there for premiership points, i'll most likely head down there for my first trip to Tasmania, should be a sell-out too.
