If you are an assistant at a premiership winning club it seems you are first picked though. Hawthorn has pretty much supplied everyone recently and Geelong supplied quite a few back in their day. Even the Pies flogged off Watters and Neale from winning one.

I agree that clubs seem to get caught up in the hype. And while the premiers may enjoy trading their spud players for gold, i'm not sure they "flog off" their coaching staff. From all accounts Watters was a very good assistant coach, and if we hadn't poached him all three parties may have ended up happier.

I was being a smart arse. Scott must have been okay as an assistant but maybe it was a basket of nutters is more complete than a single nut. watters and neale were unusual characters, Malthouse is a nut bag.

I'm semi interested with Derm.

I took his Saints wont win the GF because they're the Saints jib as a comment that due to our innate ability to board spill in public spats and pay 20c in a dollar, we did not have the backend to sustain the push for a premiership, and as shown then and prior, we were running on heart, heart and more heart to get it done and hope we could.

Now that our backend is becoming much more solid, there is a spine there are avenues to grow and otherwise branch out to become something more, something better. Will Derm still think the same? Will the football world still think the same, that we won't and that we can't simply because we are us? People like Derm, like King who make such statements and give such opinions, short of a premiership and more, there's little sweeter than hearing them backpeddle and otherwise actually changing their minds.
