I feel like i could get behind 'Wildcard round' if it was called anything else but 'Wildcard' it sounds like how it is, we took it from the NFL

Gonna sound stupid but my radical idea would be to format the entire bottom 10 to play off in the bye week for two finals spots and then sort out any draft orders of all those lower, so that gives clubs that are way off a game against a winnable opponent their supporters could go and watch. But then again that probably opens up tanking between the bottom two if they're both in the running to be last, so idk?

It feels silly to me to have more teams playing finals than not after a 23 round season.

I think generally and realistically with expansion we are going to have to probably expand the finals system. That said we haven't expanded yet and I think the AFL has stupidly jumped the gun and pissed off it's entire supporter base, even those of us who where expecting it, just not yet

Just de-values the whole thing. If you want to have some sort of play-in tournament, it should just be a 17-game H&A season with everybody playing each other once (and alternating the home and away team for each matchup by season).

THEN, you've just ****ed the higher placing 7th and 8th out of a rest they had previously qualified for and earned

Which is a classic AFL move of adding something without noticing what they're breaking. Happens every year with rule changes and very rarely if ever does something get rolled back, they just add something else.

I might be wrong and it's pure speculation on my part. I think we're playing them purely because we are locked into potential shorter breaks with anzac eve and anzac day around that time of year. Years ago we did back to back years of the bombers at docklands after anzac games. I don't think it's purely reason as the AFL did at one point throw the docklands game out the window, but they probably factor it in
