Full strength best 22. Obviously going to be contentious - Trengove and Petracca in particular.

B: Jetta / Dunn / Garland
HB: Salem / T McDonald / Toumpas
C: Watts / Vince / Viney
HF: Trengove / Pedersen / Kent
F: Garlett / Hogan / vandenBerg
R: Jamar / N Jones (c) / Tyson
I/C: Cross / Brayshaw / Grimes // Petracca

Dawes / Lumumba / Gawn / McKenzie / Stretch / Frost / Newton / Michie / Kennedy-Harris / Riley / O McDonald / Hunt / Neal-Bullen / Howe / White / Spencer / Harmes / Bail / M Jones / Terlich / King / Fitzpatrick

Eh, few questionable ones there.

Toumpas - best 22 after one good game for the club?
Trengove - would love him to come back and be best 22, but he's missed too much football to pencil him in.
Jamar - meh, guess we don't know who our best ruck is
Watts - one good game in four?

I'd have Petracca in. Look at the alternatives. Howe has to be ahead of Trengove (as a forward). I'll take Fitz over Toumpas as the utility / 2nd ruck.

Its more of an 'if they're in form / at their best 22'...

Not a bad line-up.

Only obvious one for me is out, Jamar, in, Gawn. I think Jamar's done.

And I also still think Howe's best 22 (just).

So... what has Fitzy ever done mate?

I'd think if push came to shove Howe and Lumumba are ahead of Toumpas though.

Been solid as a tall defender and not embarrassing on smalls, can go forward and kick a few goals, can provide a chop out in the ruck. I like flexibility. Not saying he's the greatest player in the world, but on the evidence of what he put up in the matches earlier in the season, I'd have him in the side until someone better comes along.

Lumumba is barely ahead of Terlich. Offers very little. Could have re-drafted Simon Buckley on less cash and he does a better job at that role than Heretier.

I feel if Fitz was Toump that wouldn't be your opinion based on his performances.

Fitz has shown glimpses, but he's had 6 years and is still not considered best 22.

I feel you think I'm horribly biased. Prior to last weekend, Toumpas had done the square root of **** all. Now he has one decent match under his belt. Against kids. I'm going to take a lot more convincing.

Talls take longer to develop, do they not? Something I think you've been happy to trot out in Watts' defense.

I don't think Fitz is that great, I just said its about team balance.

Not biased as such, and I dont think Toump has done much either for the record - his game on the weekend didnt have the impact his numbers suggested.

I view him and Fitz very similarly, with Toump looking to be close to best 22 in the coaches eyes at the moment - Fitz not so.

Meh, we have a spot for versatile tall / relief ruck. Spencil is probably best equipped to ruck a game out by himself, but he's shit. So, Gawn / Jamar plus Fitz.

I'd rather terlich than lumumba
Terlich can atleast take an overhead mark and he will put his body on the line
Both will turn it over but terlich doesn't have this false run and carry bravado

Isn't one good game more than no games at all?

He has had a pretty good month, not just one good game. Don't forget his work against the Bulldogs (20 touches, 2 goals) and he was serviceable on the Queen's Birthday. Didn't do a great deal against Port but he wasn't alone there.

I don't want to delve into stats for this guy. Some or many of those touches would include those terrible panic-saturated disposals where he lumps the ball anywhere else but here, gets a sliver of boot on an air swing or tries to kick it towards our goals but ends up kicking it towards theirs. Laser delivery and good decision making are not a staple of this boy's diet (yet).

Yes, but I'll take what I've seen of Petracca over what I've seen of Toumpas (or Lumumba, or Bail, or Terlich, or McKenzie, etc). If we haven't bombed the pick, physcially developed high draftees should be able to come straight into this side. Not sure why people reckon they can't - other high picks come in and make an impact straight away for much better sides. We've seen Brayshaw can, and we're all pretty sure Petracca is going to. He's not a weed like Morton, Scully and Watts were when they were drafted. It'll take about three games next season for everyone to agree he's consensus best 22, I reckon.

There's no real need to delve into the stats. He played well against the Bulldogs and did none of the things you have described above. I'm sure he made the odd mistake in that game, as all players do. St.Kilda was a proper breakout game but he had been building towards it in the weeks prior to it. 'One good game' is selling his past month short.

'Did none of the things you described against the Dogs'

What would you describe the shit myself handball to Stringer for a goal during the 3rd quarter as?

True, forgot about that. But otherwise it was a good game. Don't forget our skipper made a similar blunder in that same quarter!

He's done at least two or three awful things in the games I've seen him play. He's definitely better than he was in his earlier games though, as low as that bar goes.

Yep, Jones has the credits in the bank though.

Im not turning this into Toump bashing take 2 though. He has done more good than bad lately, i just want his errors to be not so costly.

The same Jones who used to make the exact same mistakes in his first few years?

Or MJones? **** that bloke out the window sideways.

Different players though. If your in the side because of 'skills' i dont want to see panic clangers.

Jones' disposal now isnt a whole heap better now than the early days, still makes some shockers. He has become an elite contested ball winning beast, one of the leagues best. Don't think Toump will ever be that.

Anyway, whatevs, like I said, just cut out the howlers and I'll be happy.

Nah, there's a huge difference in making mistakes taking the game on / trying to make things happen and wetting your Y fronts. That's terribly insulting to N.Jones. M.Jones on the other hand, fill your boots on that bloke.
