Who else do you propose they give it to? You're not wrong (keep in mind she won the wc playoff one year), but there isn't exactly anyone else to give it to.

See I'm in favour of drastically reducing the amount of wildcards into events. There are too many and, really, is there a legitimate reason for them? Honestly I don't like the idea and think it's silly to cut off the auto-entry at a certain rank, then tell the player one rank out, "Sorry, your place was taken by the world number 517, just because."

Did Barty and Dellacqua get a mention on the night? Superb year.

Still, the fact that we've offered to use it just sends him the, "Yeah, if you can't get in by yourself we'll make sure you do anyway," message. The last thing he needs. If he has to go through qualifying to get into tournaments so be it.

Would agree but he did win Sydney this year, he's defending his title so it's fair enough

When slips out of the top 100 that'll be a different story with the way he's heading.

Fair point, I just disagree with the principle of wildcards. Plus I'm sick of waiting for Tomic to pull his finger out and whether he won the tournament last year or not he's never going to learn if he keeps getting wildcards into these events. Let's be honest, whether he won the tournament last year or not he'd still have gotten a wildcard into it. Therein lies the problem imo.

Anyone going that roger federer and friends exhibition match? sounds like will be good

Wow that is big news. Wonder why?
He basically wants a "fresh approach" and also wants to combine Vajda and Becker's years of experience together - which would hopefully take him to another level.

Boris Becker To Become Novak Djokovic's Head Coach

Boris Becker will join Novak Djokovic's coaching team in the new year.
Becker will become Djokovic's new head coach, replacing Marian Vadja, who will remain part of the set-up.
The world number two, who will defend his Australian Open title next month, was defeated in the Wimbledon and US Open finals by Andy Murray and Rafael Nadalthis year.
Perhaps impressed by Ivan Lendl's effect on Murray's game, Djokovic has recruited three-time Wimbledon champion Becker.
Becker has primarily worked as a pundit since he retired from tennis in 1999, and commentated on both of Murray's Grand Slam wins for Sky Sports and the BBC.
The German won six majors, including two Australian Opens and a US Open, but is best known for his Wimbledon win as a 17-year-old in 1985.
His coaching experience, however, is severely limited.

Promotional/commercial reasons. You only have to see how the courts with Australians playing pack out in the first week of the AO. The crowd would much rather see a 517th ranked Aussie than a 110th ranked Slovakian.

Without WCs there would be very few Australians in the main draw, and that is bad business for the early rounds of a tournament.

Only a week now before we kick the season into gear. I believe there's still one WC each for Brisbane, be interesting to see who gets it.

Janowicz also pulled out of the Hopman Cup and they replaced him with a play ranked around 300.

A bit disappointed to hear that, Radwanska and Janowicz would have made a pretty terrific team even despite having the complete opposite game styles.

Dellacqua got a wildcard to Hobart. Going to make those Sydney wildcards interesting. I reckon draw a name out of a hat might work.

Kokkinakis has been given wildcards into ATP Tournments Rotterdam and Marsielle. Both have strong fields. Not sure how I feel about this.
