Deledio should be playing CHF with our current midfield depth.

He was outstanding there as a junior and is better than any other option we have to play the role. He's behind several in the midfield ATM - before Cotchin and Cousins come back in - and we need to be using him more effectively than getting that outcome week after week.

The few times he's been permanently forward he's been very effective and I really don't buy the argument that because he's 5cm shorter than the average lead up CHF he can't play that role just as well. Height is totally irrelevant when you're 3m out in front on the lead all game and nobody can get near you.

I'd give Shulz a crack at FF, he's our current best option there and players in that position deserve the first opportunity - we've got 10-12 weeks to play around with the forward setup, and when you think about it, any good side in the comp who lost a key forward would bring someone of about Schulz's quality or worse in to replace them.

That'd give us the luxury of playing Reiwoldt on a wing resting in the pocket for a while (much the same role as Richo has played) and letting the kid get his confidence up. Schulz and he usually work well together and arguably Reiwoldt's best talents ATM are his ability to read the play both in receiving and delivering the ball, and slipping under the radar to put himself in dangerous positions.

I'm looking forward to seeing the forward line changes evolve, but I'm much more looking forward to seeing our full midfield unit together at long last.

We've had only a couple of very brief periods during the last few decades where we've assembled enough quality in the guts to be serious contenders against all comers; the lineup we potentially take in this week if Cousins and Cotchin are included would have at least equal if not surpass any of them on paper.

That's what I was excited about pre-season - and Coughlan back playing some very solid footy so far is beyond most of our wildest dreams.

Once they've all had a chance to get their touch back, if enough of them can fire consistently and stay fit, we have a very formidable midfield.

If that occurs, I suspect we may well find out that a very 'average' forwardline replete with several 'average' players like Schulz will suddenly starts looking very dangerous.

Anybody want to give up even a late draft pick these days for Quinten Lynch? How about Ashley Hansen? Both just a tad over 26 now and in their prime playing years? These two superstars kicked almost half of the Eagles' goals in their premiership and were arguably among the best dozen players on the ground. Without a winning midfield supplying ball to their advantage, it's difficult to name even a couple of sides they could get a game with .

Midfield's win games and it doesn't take anything resembling champion key forwards to take decisive advantage of the output from a dominant group of 6-7 quality onballers.

Hopefully over the next month or so we'll get a long awaited reminder of what it's like to have a dominant midfield. If it all clicks we're capable of doing anything over the next 16 games. :thumbsu:

B: Bowden Moore Rance

C: Jackson Coughlan Deledio
HF: White Riewoldt Morton
F: Nahas Schulz Collins
R: Graham Cotchin Foley

Thomson and Hislop fighting for spots with Tuck, Cogs, Foley, White
Hughes given the message to work his ass off to push Schulz out of the team
Edwards to fight with Polo, Tambling and Collins for a spot
Pettifer to fight with Morton for a spot
Thursfield and Silvestor told to step it up to push one of the talls out (Silvestor is more likely to do that at this stage)

Just on all the anti-Schulz posting, saying he has had his chance and has blown it. When has Schulz had run of 10-12 weeks without Richo in the side? He never has, even when Richo was moved to the wing he was still there floating down into the forward line when we were in need of a lift. Schulz now has the opportunity to play FF without Richo around at all. Perhaps now is when we'll finally get to see what Schulz can do when he is the main focus of the forward line.

Afterall, what have we got to lose? We're already 15th with a 1-5 record.

S**t Post...

Perfect example... Roughead kicked 75 goals (third in the league) last year, even though the statistics showed that hawthorn went to Franklin way more.

Johno Brown and Bradshaw kicked 70 and 75 goals both playing as key forwards in a team that didn't even make the finals.

I can go on giving you examples but i am not going to waste my time, by the way if your going to change your name to ruthless tiger its about time you woke up and realized that Schulz is nothing more then a list clogger who might have a good game every blue moon but 90% of the time is rubbish. He has been gifted 7 years on our list.

Generation Next? ....its more like Generation Vexed. As we speak, I would suggest that any prospective youngster who truly has aspirations of making it in the big time, instead of just making it to the big time, would be looking at our totally flawed development blue print and thinking "dont ****ing pick me".
Our list is riddled with try hards and second chancers, who are fighting for an AFL career, instead of players who belong. ;)

Whilst Schulz played full forward in the first few rounds and during our pre-season he was our best and most consistant forward, just so happened we were playing ordinary footy and he didn't have the runs coming into the season that Brown, Morton or Reiwoldt had on the board, as a forward, as he played back last season.
He should have his chance now and it will be interesting to see if he is left at full forward whether he can have can have an impact, 3 goals a week would be a excellent return.

Thats great throwing up all the stats, but how about answering the question I asked. When has Schulz had the F50 available without Richo for 3 months?

Last year Buddy and Roughy kicked 113 & 75, next best was Williams 46, Osborne 27, Rioli 24 & Hodge 20.

Brisbane had Bradshaw 75 & Brown 70, next best was Corrie with 21, Hooper 19 & Johnstone 17.

We had Richo 48 Brown 35 Morton 35 Deledio 28 Riewoldt 18 Bowden 17 Simmonds 13 Hughes 12 Edwards 12.

Notice the difference? The majority of our goals were kicked by mid sized forwards because we didn't have another KPF down there who could get the ball delivered to them often enough. So now that we don't have Richo down there commanding the ball be delivered to him maybe just maybe Schulz can flourish and deliver 35-45 goals for the season. Given that we're going to be experimenting with our line up in the forward line for the next 12 weeks what harm will come from giving Schulz 4-6 weeks to stake a claim and perhaps show what he can do when he is getting more ball delivered to him. If he can't step up, then stamp his file trade/delist and look at the next option.

As I said we have now been given an opportunity to finally see what our forward line can do without Richo being around to throw down there when Wallace loses patience with the kids. Never know we might just find a couple of KPFs who can replace Richo.
