I hate to upset anyone hear and give false hope as most people start threads about bands they love, but I just wanted to talk about how much these guys absolutely suck. I heard them on the radio today and could help but think Genesis and al their offshoots is just a clusterf*ck of triple decker shyte samwiches.

Their sound is just f***ing gay. And as if they weren't bad enough they split like a f***ing amoeba into three equally as bad sounding....amoebas.

Peter Gabriel is just crap. And at least Mike and the Mechanics never got really popular (thankfully the public knew he was crap). But Phil Collins? I can't beleieve how many records this guy has sold? Has anyone ever met anyone who admits to liking Phil Collins? Ever seen someone getting around in a Phil Collins t-shirt? Who listens to him?
 
FYI - Peter Gabriel isn't part of the retirement fund tour/reunion.

However, the other nude nut, Phil Collins is.

It has been estimated that there was 2.4 square miles in the desert of outer Mongolia which was the only place you could go in 1988 without hearing a Phil Collins record.

But what happened? Not that I'm complaining, but sometime in the early 90s his career just plain died in the arse. His style would have hardly changed...did people just wake up to his crappiness?

Oh, I will admit to liking "In The Air Tonight" and "Against All Odds", but have no need to hear them again for at least another decade.

I've been a big Genesis fan eversince the release...
of their 1980 album Duke.
Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work.
It was too artsy, too intellectual.
It was on Duke where...
Phil Collins' presence became more apparent.
I think Invisible Touch is the group's undisputed masterpiece.
It's an epic meditation on intangibility.
At the same time, it deepens and enriches...
the meaning of the preceding three albums.

Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing...
of Banks, Collins and Rutherford.
You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument.

ln terms of lyrical craftsmanship and sheer songwriting,
this album hits a new peak of professionalism.
Take the lyrics to "Land of Confusion."
In this song, Phil Collins...
addresses the problems of abusive political authority.
"In Too Deep" is the most moving pop song of the 1980s...
about monogamy and commitment.
The song is extremely uplifting.
Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative...
as, uh, anything I've heard in rock.

Phil Collins' solo career...
seems to be more commercial,
and therefore more satisfying in a narrower way,
especially songs like "In the Air Tonight" and "Against All Odds."

Sabrina, don't just stare at it. Eat it.
I also think that Phil Collins works best...
within the confines of the group than as a solo artist.
And I stress the word "artist."
This is "Sussudio."
A great, great song. A personal favorite.

I actually remember working at KFC in 1985. This was when Calipo ice creams (or sorbet) first came out. KFC had a promotion - buy a combo and get a free Calipo. At the end of my shift me and my mate would put 2 or 3 down the front of our pants.

The manager's name was Nugent. He was maybe Indo or Malaysian or something. This squirly headed c*** looked like Lionel Richie and I always assumed he modelled his haircut on Lionel's from the video clip of "Hello".

One night at the end of shift he calls us into his office. I'm thinking, "F***, this Lionel Richie/Super Mario cross looking mofo is onto us. And he says: "F***ing Phil Collins man. He's sooo f***ing good. Pefection. How can you get music as good as that?" He went on about Phil Collins for a bit. Whilst my di ck was frozen like a Surprise pea I was wndering if he was just f***ing wid us and waiting to spring us.

Just turned out this guy, his bryl creamed mullet, leather jacket, and Toyota Supre just loved Phil Collins.

I actually watched it last night, and that exact monologue was what I first thought soon as I saw your title, then i remembered what a disappointment the movie is.


Oh and yeah I have seen people wearing Phil Collins T-Shirts, and theyre always just a little bit weirder than the average weird person.

Well, that song "The Living Years" was absolutely inescapable when it came out (late 80s/early 90s).

They actually played this on the radio yesterday. I was channel flicking and came across Jonno Coleman and he was doing a bit on Genesis and their offshoots. Was the inspiration for this thread.

I remember "All I need is a Miracle" got a fair bit of airplay. Totally gay.
 
Dont mind some of Peter Gabriel's stuff, Phil Collins should have been aborted at birth or at any convenient time thereafter, The Cars and Robert Palmer I quite like, Huey Lewis can get in the aborting line with Phil Collins.

I was gonna say Peter Gabriel's early work is great. "Games without frontiers" is a superb piece.
 
The Shock the Monkey and Sledgehammer type stuff/sound. That's the exact stuff I can't stand. Hate it.

I don't mind a few Robert Palmer songs, but then some just suck. Never got the Bryan Ferry suit thing either. What? Is he (Palmer) a f***ing accountant?

Predates that stuff. When he first left Genesis he released three LPs (all called "Peter Gabriel" on the Famous Charisma Label). He then moved onto Virgin and it was all down hill from there. The third one (in particular) is critically acclaimed as his best. It was produced by Steve Lillywhite. That was the LP that featured "Games without Frontiers". I'll guarantee you would have heard it at some time. It got a fair play bit of airplay.
Was never really a fan of Mr Palmer's but if I had to listen to one of his songs it would be "Johnny and Mary".

Huge Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music fan. I love sleazy cabaret and no-one did it better.

I like Roxy Music. Don't even have a problem with Ferry's suit. Well, a little bit. Robert Palmer just looks like a punce though. Sort of 80s in a nutshell.

If you had '80s in a dictionary a photo of Palmer in that suit he did the addicted to love film clip would be ideal.


BTW and apropos to nothing in particular. Sonic Youth do a kick arse version of Addicted To Love. Just about their best track ever.
