The Melbourne Football Club will begin the search for a new coach of the Casey Scorpions, after Peter German resigned from his position as senior coach earlier this week.

Chris Connolly, General Manager, Football Operations, said, “It is disappointing to lose a coach of Peter German’s standing, as he did a terrific job during the 2009 season. He has decided to take another career opportunity at the Western Bulldogs, and we wish him well in the future.

“We will now commence the search for a suitable candidate to take the Casey Scorpions forward in Season 2010.”

This year, the Scorpions finished sixth on the VFL ladder and bowed out in week one of the finals, following a loss to Collingwood.

Disappointing I reckon, German seemed to do a great job at Casey this year, and one of my mates has played under him and reckons he's the best coach he's ever had.

I wonder why he left?

It does say he was offered a role at the Bulldogs.

He may also have been upset at the club for failing to make anyone available for the finals.

Hasn't Casey had like 5 coaches in 5 years?

Saints and Casey has had problems for years with their alignment.

Something is not right down there.

Maybe travel? He lives in Oak Park and has to travel out to Casey

Maybe he's pissed off that he gets next to no AFL players in his VFL lineup after the AFL season has ended?

Exactly. Melbourne's conduct in not making every eligible player available for the finals, was a disgrace. MFC tried to justify by saying that the players were injured, but at that stage of the year, nearly every player is carrying a niggle of some sort.

German's philosophy was all about winning. I wish the MFC football dept. had the same mindset.

Sooo.... You would rather the MFC look after Casey before our own needs and not put players in for surgery/rest youngsters to have them primed for a massive pre-season?

I wouldn't.

He's coaching Williamstown and has become the Dogs development officer or something, anybody thought that maybe he was offered more money or just wanted a change of scenery? Not every move has an ulterior motive, some moves are just change for the sake of change.

Still wish we could have held onto him.

Would of preferred we kept Andy Lovell when we signed him for 2 seasons at Sandy, then Jimmy came in and said **** it off to Casey we go and Andy was left high and dry.

I love German, has a good mindset to each game. Also wouldnt mind seeing young Matthews pop into the team ;)

IMO, playing finals football, regardless of whether it's VFL standard, is a better learning path than putting them in cotton wool. If we had a stand-alone VFL side, would all those players be rested? The answer is no.

Would you prefer Trengove sitting in the stands than playing in a SANFL GF?

If in the club medico's POV Trengrove would be better served by having a rest than playing a game which doesn't involve Melbourne then yes. Bit different though.

I'll trust the clubs decision on this- if they feel the young players who have had a long season were needing a rest, then rest em.

Think we'll have to agree to disagree!
