Im over east so only just got to watch the interview with weedon after he was given #44.

For a young 18 year aboriginal kid, coming from Broome, he held himself extremely well in that interview. The media that were present did everything to try exploit some inside info to his injury, his family etc.

They really put him under the pump.
And in probably his first media interview, let alone in front of 10 reporters, it shows his true character and why eagles have faith in him.

I know little of his on-field credits, but that interview alone gives me great faith in him.

Koby seemed a bit nervous and jumpy in his interview, but comes across as a pretty intelligent and relaxed sort of guy.

They were all pretty nervous but in different ways. Sheppard couldn't stop smiling, Koby looked like he was about to shit himself the whole time and Gerrick just seemed a bit shy.

None of them really expanded much on their answers and tended to finish with "so yeah.." all the time.

But it's a massive learning experience, something they'll all develop in time and will look back on in a few years to have a chuckle at themselves :thumbsu:

He seemed nervous but came across as relaxed? Well that's interesting.

:D He seems like, in general, he is a pretty cool and collected kind of guy, but in the interview he looked overwhelmed, which is understandable I guess.

Yeah, the darting eyes at the start gave it away.

Still, they're all just kids who've just landing in amoungst the swarm of the media and the AFL, can't blame 'em.

Lol.

I agree EM87, you have to feel for the poor buggers. I remember going for a job interview for the first time and being totally shit scared, so I really can't imagine being in that situation; they just get drafted, then photos and questions, fly back straight away to wherever (leaving family and friends), more interviews (with the fact in mind that whatever they say will be plastered all over the net, and the tv for some of the top picks), all before they even meet the coach or other players or settle into a new house... It'd be tough to say the least!

Yep

We need to remember they are school-leaver aged kids. Not too many at that age are polished media performers

I think we have selected an all round strong group mentally. Stevens and Shepp while being shit nervous and excited respectively, both seem very articulate, and Weedon, while not being quite as clear and articulate, which is pretty common/natural being an aboriginal guy down from Broome, was still very composed and seemingly media smart.

Yeah, just saw the 3 interviews and they all did exceptionally well. They're just unlucky to be drafted a year after Tom Swift - gee that kid's impressive

Lol was gonna say something similar before, along the lines of, "Not every kid can be as good as Swift in his first media interview".

I think expectations for the media performance of every future draftee were raised the day Tom Swift got drafted. Perhaps on-field performance too.

Not to mention neck length. How are people meant to keep up with that?

This may sound harsh but I was expecting Stevens to be a little more "polished" in his interview. He went through the AIS-AFL Academy and appears to possess a lot of leadership credentials.. but out of all them he was shitting himself the most.

I'll put it down the fact he'd just flown over from Vic and would have been way out of his comfort zone. Fronting a bunch of journos and cameras would have been deadset the last thing he'd have felt like doing.
