Hello everyone, let me start by saying I have serious reservations of about using this as a way to pass an external message but... I got to raise awareness for a teammate.

Not sure if anyone has seen it on the news the past three days on Channel 7 & 9, but a teammate of mine playing for Canning Vale in a amateurs match on the weekend vs Coolbinia West Perth was involved in a sickening accident. Was going to pick up the ball and an opposing player clean connected with his head and caused spinal injuries, ribs, collarbone. We're trying to raise money for his medical bills that will be hefty and are throwing a fundraiser this coming Saturday.

There's a hashtag #doitfordamo & there's a facebook page called 'Donations for Damo'

Thanks for reading and I'd of loved to post my own thread but I'm just not on here enough to get my posts up to do that.

Do I need an account name out will just the account number and bsb number be sufficient? Or do I just use Damo as the account name? Cheers

Have shared on twitter and will be donating.

Larri's posted a link to this thread on our board (so you should have a few of our blokes come over here, sorry about that ;) ) and we've tweeted a link to the thread.

Great cause, will make a donation myself now.

Donated.
What's the story re insurance in the WAAFL?
I found a link to the application for personal injury cover provided by JLT Sport. You would have to assume that if there is a fund raising appeal organised that he didn't take it up. Can anybody shed some light?

Thanks Fivey :). I PM'd larri and swannies about this, but couldn't tag you into it for some reason.

Probably because I've blocked you ;)

Nah not really. Maybe you can only add two people to PMs, who knows?

Dropped some cash into that account, all the best for Damo and his family :thumbsu:

I'm the treasurer of a PCA cricket club and I can tell you we have three insurance bills applicable to the senior club.

1 building insurance

2 club property (jlt)

3 national club insurance (paid to the association but ultimately ending up with jlt)

This last one covers committee liability, public liability and personal injury including non-Medicare covered medical expenses, loss of income and capital benefits.

Does the WAAFL not have something like this? If not I’d be a little concerned since footy is clearly a bit more dangerous than cricket.

Rallying round and community support is a great thing but this isn’t America and hopefully will only be required as a short term measure (financially I mean, not other support in event of long term health consequeces)

WAAFL seems to have the same, but is it included in your subs or do you have to arrange it yourself?

But it's not like having insurance cover is an open cheque book for him though.

Obviously, we all hope that he makes a full recovery, however, if he doesn't he will need ongoing care and rehabilitation. Insurance companies will cover a generous proportion of this and , in time, he may receive a substantial payout to tide him through life.

Sadly though, many people are forced into the courts to gain benefits befitting what they will face for the rest of their lives.

Insurance companies are soulless, heartless kharnts of things who only care about their bottom line.

In the short term, at least, he needs all the financial support that he can get.
