to me this is the thing that Schwab and co, need to be doing right now, no questions asked.

We need an elite recruiter. We will be armed with a bunch of high picks this upcoming draft, and it will be by far the most important draft in the MFC history. We can not stuff it up.

Rendell has the runs on the board. Look at how the Crows are doing now. They are rolling, and Rendell is the guy that spotted and drafted all their elite young talent.

He is as good a recruiter as there is, AND HE IS AVAILABLE.

I will be shocked if we aren't sounding him out at the very least.

Totally agree, we should be doing something like that. With the AFL liking to give everyone a second chance, they would also support it.

But the gut feeling is that they are holding out for the 2IC at Collingwoods recuiting department contract to expire, the same one Eddie cracked it about (thinking we were poaching).

Its not poaching when his contact its up and he could look for another.

I think he gave a fairly good account of himself and anyway, it was his word against Jason Mifsud, who ya' gonna trust?

I am a little worried we seem to have a bit of botch job for a recruiting team this year, with Viney, Lamb and O'Donell all just crowbarred in at the last minute and in their first year.

Agreed, get Rendell.
It looks like there will be a cleanout at years end so we need some one with experience and a proven history of performance. He did well with the Adwelaide list.
Having said that a number of players from recent drafts have been cruelled by injury and there is still a chance they may come up. Eg, Gys, Blease, Strauss, Tapscott. Cook was recruited as a long term project player and that's ok and players like Pettard and Morton have had interupted preseasons on a regular basis. I have no doubt that Watts and Howe will be future stars.
In this coming draft there should be 2 or 3 players who can play immediately (including Viney) and we will probably pick up a 'Free agent'.
All in all by years end we should be stocked with a very decent number of potential elite players.
Off topic but the Saints were very dismal first half of last year (reasons well documented). WCE had around 8 premiership players on their list and had a crap 2 or 3 seasons recently.
So hopefully we can turn it around next year.

Rendell would have been a great acquisition.

Nathan Bassett the current Norwood coach will be hot AFL property come end of the season. I'd like to think the club is at least having a look at him for an assistant role - someone will get him though - IMO Hawthorn, Adelaide or possibly Collingwood.

Would also add a bit of extra intrigue with the Viney pick - assuming we're not going to be last on the ladder, he will push hard (or at least give the impression) for us to chose best availible, might scare GWS & GCS from putting in a dummy bid?

I said when Prendergast was sacked that i wasnt confident with Viney heading recruiting with zero experience in what is our most important draft ever......

Rendell has a great track record,, and knows the players better than Viney and our few scouts we have under him, otherwise they would have been offered the top job.

If we are not one of these clubs then we are insane, we are meant to be appointing one next year anyway and one of the best in the business is available now......seems obvious to me

Besides Jim Stynes coming in and helping wipe our debt, there isn't a lot of things we have done right in a very long time. Like I said, we are a basketcase atm. What's the difference between us sticking our hand out for money from the AFL or them helping us out in this situation?

Look, I'm sure we have put a call to Rendell. And tbh, we would look fairly attractive to him. He'll pretty much have a blank canvas to work with and some top draft picks this season. I don't see anything wrong with asking the AFL to help get this over the line. Christ, the AFL virtually had a helping hand in every appt at GWS and GC.
