From The Age website:
Melbourne Storm favourite Matt Geyer today dismissed rumours that he would retire after Sunday's National Rugby League grand final against Brisbane, saying he was looking forward to exciting times with the club.
The speculation started after Geyer was asked by Channel Nine commentator Matthew Johns shortly after the Storm had beaten St George Illawarra in Saturday night's preliminary final about how it felt for his last game to be the grand final.
The 31-year-old foundation player, who earlier this season signed a two-year contract extension that would next year make him the Storm's first 10-year player, did not correct the former Newcastle and Test five-eighth Johns, who also acts as an adviser to Storm half-back Cooper Cronk.
It was a decision that has brought a flood of calls from confused family and friends during the past couple of days and while he joked that "I think the coach (Craig Bellamy) wants me to, but I'm not, I'm digging my heels in", he insisted he would play on.
"No mate, I'm not retiring," said the 1999 premiership player, who has played 213 NRL games.
"I didn't feel it was the time to correct him (Johns), so no, mate, there's no story there.
"There's no send-off for me. I'm actually looking forward to the next couple of years, it will be exciting times for the club."
