He is well educated (studied at Scotch)

Um...;)

In all seriousness though, and just breezing through this thread, I think it's great (and clear) that we have legitimate leaders coming through the club ranks, and each with their own leadership style. Moreso given where we the last few seasons (bemoaning our lack of a clear standout leader/s among ranks). I won't pretend as though as we've gone from being relatively leader-less to the league's most disciplined squad, but the change has been impressive all the same.

Harley isn't exactly the inspirational skipper of the Hird/Voss mould, but he doesn't need to be. Consumate professional, he sets the standards on and off the field, and presents well to the media/outside as the "face" of the club. Ling is another who spring to mind who fits this mould.

Then we've obviously got the likes of Chappy, Moons, and to some extent, Gaz, who are the more extrovert (at least, out on the field), play-inspiring guys who's games can lift the entire team. Why wouldn't you want to hit the next contest that little bit harder after seeing either of them just slot a goal and complete some fist-pumping?

Jimmy is another who seems to be progressing along (to go with his countless, courageous, team-lifting plays which I'm sure don't go unnoticed by his teammates), and although there's been some concern raised over his public presentation, I'd say this past season (where he's really picked up the pace in doing media interviews etc - I'm not sure if this is a club ploy to really get him out there and exposed, or if Jim is simply coming out of his shell, but I'm enjoying it) has seen steps in the right direction.

Of course then, there's the up-and-coming lads like Selwood, who probably fits all of the above moulds at the moment, really (well, aside from any particular extrovertism, although his GF performance in response to Brogan's chin would suggest otherwise).

All leaders in their own ways, which can't be anything else but healthy for the club in the next few years.

Bolded. I much prefer having Harley speak for the team than some of our "yeah nah" types. Also Harley is one of the most self-disciplined footballers Geelong has ever had, so his influence on the side and especially the younger players is invaluable. Not to mention that he is universally respected by the senior players as well. Colbert left because (among other reasons) he felt he was being usurped by his peers. No chance of that with Harley. The captain doesn't necessarily need to be your marquee player.

Cosign. Well said.

is this a joke? why would they take it off harley? he has been an awesome skipper this year!

No. Im only young and didnt know..
Sorry..

And im a big fan of Harley.. a great role model and team-person.
Would love to him to stay as captain for another 3 years. if possible.
