I like Simons lateral movement. Good peripheral vision. I had trouble seeing the other fellow in the vision but he looked good

How tall are they. Could be a bit short but that is okay for certain positions.

Look promising, so a little Cyril in there I am sure.

Definitely something to build on there though!!:thumbsu::thumbsu:
 
I think we may have found a player here!
This kid was dominant for PNG in the recent International under 16 carnival. He was one of few players from the under 16 team to make the PNG senior team in the current international cup. Today he was very good in semi, see below. I think Ray Hall gave us the tip with Gideon. Strong bodied midfield, similar to David Rodan. He plays on Saturday against our other international recruit in John Heslin in the Grand Final.

Stannis Susuve (#2) was again a standout for the Mosquitoes kicking four goals while Emmaus Wartovo (#12) and Gideon Simon (#4) were instrumental in the victory.

PNG will now play the winner of the Ireland and New Zealand match for a shot at this year’s title.

If he has good goal sense we might be able to play him up forward like a forward pocket to ease him into AFL level and support his development

Simon has played longer than Heslin.
Watching his highlights from the Under 16's he has something special about him in traffic. Could be a very dangerous forward in the future.
Heslin on the other hand is a massive unit who could turn into an enforcer type in the backline. Not sure of his speed though?
 
Saw him in PNG when i was up there, they young kid Carbry is another one who showed plenty in moresby, i think the lions are into him though
 
This was in the AGE this morning.
The sport has grown a lot in the last few years: more than 20 young boys live and study at an academy outside Port Moresby and another 20 or so are playing around Australia, several in Queensland. David Lake, who coaches Queensland state league side Mt Gravatt but helps the Mozzies whenever he can, is certain one will play AFL before long. He thinks it will be Gideon Simon, from the Western Highlands, set to join Richmond on scholarship next year.

Lets be honest though - an average melbourne school side would probably thrash the PNG U16s. Sure the kid may be worth a punt based on athleticism, but there is nothing really can be drawn from his performances in the international Cup. The opinion of a bloke who coaches a Qld state league side that 'This kid will play AFL' isn't really worth much either.

The scholarship system is to get the good kids down to Aus and show them AFL football. Then they can go back to PNG and spread the gospel. It's more about helping PNG footy (which is a very good aim) rather than finding AFL footballers.

But I hope he gives it a real go. He might be a Nic Natuini, so I'm glad we're giving him a try. If we treat him right, there's more chance of us nabbing the first real PNG star a few years down the track.

What you say is correct however what impressed me, is that as a 16 year old he is performing against men as he was second best yesterday in the semi final and obvioulsy impressed. Which i believe is alaways a good sign.
If we can bring him over next year and have him playing at one of the private schools in melbourne over the next two years he can only improve.
 
The RFC might get a freebie quality player outside the main draft. Things really are changing!!
 
Generally speaking these guys don't make it but he played in the pacific team in the state championships and was best on when they won against Tasmania. He is amazing in traffic although is a little bit small.

Hardwick wanted him to play in a pre-season game but he wasn't allowed to. That alone must say something about this kids potential. Along with Heslin who by all accounts has made early progress.

He's signed as an international scholarship which is like an extra list (bit like NSW scholarship) Don't think he is a real rookie list player so can only play for Coburg. But he is ours.

Don't get me wrong here, but with this kid, helsin, the me bank centre, debt erosion, and off field success, were starting to remind me of collingwood....

Minus the tireless sooking, eddies rants, afl favoritism, and stupid off field player stuff ups.
 
If we are serious with these 2 kids they should both be playing for coburg in 2012 & under the supervision of our trainers & coaches.

Must say though really impressed with Helsin Physically already bigger and stronger than half our list & the kids 18.
