He has come out publicly declaring his interest in the job.

Lowe just said he is not surprised Hoddle is interested.

I couldn't see him getting the job, the above post was just a polite way of telling him to get ****ed. :)

Straight out won't happen. People forget that there was a bit of a fuss when Lowe and Hoddle refused to shake hands at the first Spurs-Saints match after he left. There is a lot of bad blood there.

Hoddle is an astute tactician and coach, but he is terrible in the transfer market and notorious for alienating every player in the dressing sheds given time. It seems everywhere he goes there are guys like Sherwood and Colleter who spill their guts about what a %$#hole he is.

I have no idea why anyone would link Hoddle with a return to Southampton. Or any of the other clubs he's been at. He's burned far too many bridges everyhwre, not least his time in charge of England!

He would slot in nicely into Everton's midfield.

Hoddle back with the Saints

Lowe re-signs manager who enraged fans when he left

The Guardian

Glenn Hoddle will make a remarkable and controversial return to management at Southampton this month, just under three years after he walked out on the club.
Hoddle's appointment could be confirmed by the end of this week, with Southampton's chairman Rupert Lowe convinced the former England coach is the right man for the job despite opposition from some fans.

Southampton supporters sang anti-Hoddle songs and asked "Are you listening Rupert Lowe?" during last weekend's draw against Fulham and similar chants may be heard tonight at Arsenal, where Gordon Strachan takes charge of the team for probably the last time. Yet Lowe is adamant Hoddle should be given the chance to continue the work he started before departing abruptly for Spurs.

Maybe its a big conspiracy and Lowe is plotting his revenge.

Bring Hoddle in, let him think he's safe, then sack him as soon as Strachan is available agian.:D

Unfortunately I don't believe in conspiracies only c*ck-ups

Hoddle may not be returning to Southampton though:

from the BBC website
Saints tight-lipped on Hoddle

Lowe silent on new boss
Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe insists no decision has been made to bring former boss Glenn Hoddle back to the club.
Speculation has grown that former England manager Hoddle will be appointed to succeed Gordon Strachan.

But Lowe told the BBC: "No decision has been made about a new manager, we are keeping our options open, we will name a new manager when it is right for us.

"Newspaper speculation, is not helping our search for a new manager."

Hoddle's return to the south coast would split Saints supporters down the middle

The manner of his departure two years ago to take up his dream job at Tottenham left a sour taste in the mouths of many fans.

Supporters made their feelings clear at the game against Fulham with chants that were less than complimentary towards Hoddle.

But Lowe is prepared to hold out the olive branch to the manager who is recognised by many as the architect of Saints conversion from perennial relegation strugglers to an established Premiership side.

When Hoddle walked out, Southampton were seventh in the table, having won five successive Premiership games.

Lowe is remaining tight-lipped

Lowe's wrath was directed more at Tottenham's directors, and the Saints chairman made a pointed show of shaking hands with Hoddle when the teams met at White Hart Lane earlier this season.

Hoddle's dream of returning to the club he graced as a player turned into a nightmare.

During his two-and-a-half years at White Hart Lane, he failed to convert Spurs into a potential Premiership-winning team, and was sacked nine games into this season following a disastrous start.

Ironically, his last game in charge was the 3-1 defeat by Saints at White Hart Lane.

Southampton's search for a new manager has been prompted by Strachan's decision not to renew his contract at the end of the season.

Former Marseille coach Alain Perrin and fellow Frenchman Phillipe Troussier had been tipped to become Saints first foreign coach.

If Lowe has opted not to take the risk of appointing an overseas coach, he will pick from a limited field of British candidates.

In any case, Lowe is keen to appoint Strachan's succesor in plenty of time to give him a full pre-season with the Southampton suqad.

Don't know anything about the frogs.

Yeah Phillipe Troussier has managed South Africa and Japan.

My money's on Hoddle for the job, but given the strength of feeling of the fans and that no deal has been done. Lowe may have a change of heart.

All we need is Grant Thomas to leave Moorabbin and having Tim Watson return to coach the Saints.

If that happens Sainter, stay away from bridges and tall buildings.

Don't even joke about it. If Hoddle is welcomed back to the club, anything is possible. And what a brilliant birthday present this will be. :( ;)

As far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't care if Glenn Hoddle was the best manager in England. The manner in which we left the club was disgraceful and he has no place even setting foot back in the stadium.

Having been keeping up with a lot of our fan sites, the level of hatred towards him is unbelievable. If we appoint Hoddle, supporters will start to boycott matches, refuse to renew season tickets and generally cut all ties with the club. Our attendances would drop to Portsmouth levels. Keeping the club at a similar level on the table would not be enough to win the supporters back, they will be baying for blood after every loss. It's just not healthy.

What about players like Beattie who have been uncomplimentary about him in the past?

Alain Perrin seemed to be the favourite amongst our supporters and in light of recent developments I would do anything to have him as manager. And I don't know a thing about him.

I've got to say it's great to have the talksport coverage on SEN overnight. Much better than relying on reading news articles to find out about all the latest breaking news. Especially when it concerns us.

I can't believe that Lowe hasnt knocked this one on the head straight away. I'm all for the support the club line, but if a similar thing happened at City I would be livid.

He showed exactly what Soton meant to him when he gave them the @rse a few years ago, as far as I am concerned he lost any right to support from the Soton crowd.

Sainter I saw an interview with Beattie a while ago where he basically took the p1ss out of Hoddle. If this doesnt turn out to be a complete nightmare that you wake up from tomorrow morning, I suspect Beattie is on his way out of the club. Idoubt he will be the only one.

My sympathy to all Saints supporters.

Rupert Lowe has done a fantastic job.

We've gone from a team struggling to avoid relegation to a mid-table team.

We've brought in some very good players and managed to get 15 million pounds for Dean Richards and Wayne Bridge.

The fans don't want Glenn Hoddle and it appears the players don't want him either.

Rupe will do the right thing, surely :(

Latest scores

Arsenal 0-0 Southampton after 30 mins.
Leeds 1-1 Wolverhampton after 30 mins
Leicester 1-0 Bolton after 15 mins

The first two games would have been far better viewing on TV. I don't think there will be a more desperate game than that of Leeds and Wolverhampton

Arsenal 1 Saints 0

Henry was a couple of metres offside according to talksport while I'm having a whinge. Henry's 100th premiership goal. :(

Saints have done pretty well despite their managers.

The last good one was probably Chris Nicholl. Since then Branfoot, Ball, Merrington, Souness, Jones, Hoddle, Gray and Strachan have all been so-so at best.

Souness, Hoddle, Gray, Ball and Merrington were all there for less than 18 months. We'll be appointing our 10th manager in 13 years.

I think managers are so overrated.
