Empty seats? Our average attendance is 31,209 and the capacity is 32,551. Considering you crowd averages 18,887 don't know what you are boasting about.

Anyway we had to build our stadium larger. We need the extra seats to accomodate all those fans from the Portsmouth area who want to watch Premier Leage football next season.

Who's boasting anyway? I think you will find if ya really look hard that our Premiership home games have been sold out all season (or at least most of it anyway). The short fall in attendance as compared too capacity generally comes from away fans not coming as opposed to home fans not being bothered.
There have been empty seats at your place this season I recall one game seeing a whole empty bank of 'em but this could be for the same reason that Pompey's attendance is down, who knows?
Sainter had a stab at Pompey and I had a stab at scum it's all in good fun so there's no need to get so narky (sp?)about it!

As for the second statement well we will have too wait and see on that one! I, for one am quietly confident that we will be playing in the prem next year and the year after that WE will also have a lovely new stadium in which to house all of those extra fans who wanna come over to the light after Hoddle works his magic! ;)

We sell out the venue almost every week when at the time we built the stadium few people thought we were capable of attracting 30,000+ to a home game.

What will be interesting to see if Portsmouth will be able to fill their new 35,000 seat stadium against the likes of Gillingham in division one.

No doubt a fantastic achievement for a smallish club (not that I am saying we are any bigger by the way before you go off half-cocked again!). As I have said previously we have also sold out most matches this year, demand for tickets is extremely high which leads me too believe we can (as long as we are still in the prem) sell out in our new stadium too.
My gripe was with you stating that if Hoddle were to return then your support will drop down to Portsmouth levels, when in fact we fill roughly the same percentage of our ground as you do yours. So if the trend were to carry on in our new stadium then it would prove that in fact we have a comparable level of support to Southampton, therefore proving your previous statement to be inaccurate.
By the way Weaver every ground has empty seats at one point or another it's the nature of the game, not everyone who has bought a ticket always turn up. It's never happened where I am concerned but maybe other people have more of a life than watching sporting events who knows? :D

Does any one know much about Paul Sturrock?

I don't really know anything about him, but stepping up from Managing a Second Division side to a Premiership side is a big ask IMO?

Sturrock was a popular and succesful player and much loved by Tartan army types. He played over 600 games and scored 200 goals for Dundee United and won a championship. 20 caps and 11 goals for Scotland.

He has managed St Johnstone and Dundee Utd and did as well as you realistically can if you are not the manager of a racist Glasgow club.

He has managed Plymouth to promotion from Div 3 and they are top of the Div 2 table, title and Div 1 bound it would seem.

He is not a young inexperienced guy as some are presuming. He has 10 years of management experience and is 48 this year.

And he speaks scottish so the players wont have to learn a new language. :D

Seriously tho, when I checked my emails at 6am I could not have wished for a better start to the day.

Mark Williams could have got the job and I would have been delighted. ;)

I guess I'll be serious for a second too. I'm very happy that the club have chosen to give the job to an up and coming manager. From a selfish perspective, as he has already managed the team he grew up playing for, the possibility of abandoning us is not as high.

Notice he had signed with Plymouth 'till 2008 but had the standard

" If a Premier League Team Comes Calling...I'm Outta Here"

clause in his contract. Shows Loyalty if nothing else taht he was prepared to take on a Div 2 side for so long

Comes very highly rated, I could be wrong but I've got a feeling he was a contender for the Leeds job after Reidy got the sack.

A big job though though for an "up and comer", I wonder if an old hand will be brought in to help out (I think Wigley is staying on as well).

I reckon Sturrock will do well and I certainly wish him all the best.

A really good and underrated striker who has done well at unfashionable clubs as a manager.

One thing I don't get. Why aren't Southampton fans dirty on their club for poaching him from the Argyle when he was under contract in the same way as Hoddle was poached from Saints by Spurs. (And Hoddle had the obvious emotional pull to the Mighty Yids).

Oh yeah, hypocrisy. I get it.

As hypocritical as calling yourself the Voice of Reason and then not giving anyone the opportunity to answer your question.

I'll answer anyway.

1) Unlike Hoddle, Sturrock had a clause in his contract allowing him to speak to any Premiership club which showed an interest.

2) Instead of setting up a deal and presenting it as a fait accompli, Southampton made an official approach to Plymouth-Argyle seeking permission to speak to Strurrock.

Hoddle abandoned the club while in this instance Southampton have kept Plymouth informed at every stage of the negotiations.

Glen Hoddle took a runner after only 14 months and during his first contract. Hoddle and Tottenham both denied the deal was on the cards and it was put together on the sly after Hoddle sent the team away on a break. Saints had to go to the FA to get compensation

Sturrock completed his first 3-year contract and then negotiated a new one to include the Premier League clause. Saints went through official channels and got permission to do the deal from the Plymouth chairman. The compensation package was agreed before the deal was announced.
