He's probably best known in the east for calling Test Cricket with Jim Maxwell.

As for why, perhaps he is going to work in Mining or Oil & Gas related field. That's what everyone at my work is doing when they're quitting ....

Sports broadcaster for Rio Tinto ?

He is an excellent commentator, and the ABC will be poorer for the loss of him.

Interesting - either that's facetiousness in the extreme or we have poler opposite views. Couldn't stand to hear Bitchell commentate on footy. Fawned over WC but put the boot into us at every opportunity. Wasn't professional enough to even be concerned with appearing unbiased. Stooped to commentating on crowd sizes and movements but only when it suited him. Glad to see the back of him.

Rant over, but feel better now.

Can't say I ever saw it that way, seemed to be a very professional commentator.

Would be many people more knowlegable about the game than he was.

I didn't notice any bias in his commentary.

Met him before, nice guy, said to hear he's leaving ABC. He must be going elsewhere with regard to sports commentary.

Is his wife leaving ABC aswell?

I thought he was constructive with critisism. Enjoyed his commentry and knowledge.

Each to their own I guess.

I am going to miss him during the summer commentating with Kerry :(

Interesting that they asked him to leave and not come back on Friday morning. The way it is written it seems like this happened before he handed in his notice??

Am I reading it wrong?

My favourite commentator by a mile.

Boo ABC and your stupid management layers. :thumbsd:

One of the most professional and easy to listen to commentators in the business.

Anyone who says he was shit should nominate who they prefer so they can amuse us all.

Perhaps confused with Wally Foreman who was so biased it wasn't funny....could barely contain his love for West Coast. Didn't help that his relationship with Schwab was non existant and consequently he whined about Freo at every chance....

i will miss his astute and well researched views on all things sport
sad day for aunty,if this is a red tape public service **** up i'll be pissed off,

In the old days when George Grljusich and Glenn Mitchell worked together at the ABC, George used to call him "The oracle" because of his expansive knowledge and mental storehouse various facts and figures about sport.
