Thought so. I think social media and the media have been terrible in exaggerating the state of affairs.at a longer glance in the West.........you're spot on

Despite the fear being driven by conservative media outlets they are thankfully far less a part of life then 30-40 years ago, albeit with a very concerning rise in the last couple of years (obviously driven by the rise of IS).Sadly terror attacks are becoming a regular part of life...

I imagine you'd fit in nicely with these lads - both in terms of ugliness on the inside and out.Islamism is up though, and that's a bigger problem.

Interesting times.....are terrorist acts the beginning of peace or the beginning of something big.
War metals have never been in bigger demand with India seeking to secure 20% of the worlds supply for "light bulbs" they claim. Russia turning on small scale illegal mining to increase internal supply, germany using govt support to secure stockpiles for industry, china grabbing a whopping 85% of the worlds production and the CIA backing US funds to secure the metals.
In addition we see Russia move into a practice war in the Crimea and Syria. The US is always battle prepared and it will be interesting to see how India and China gain valuable experience.
My question is whether terrorism is related to this arms build up. Are we entering another cold war build up, or is terrorism just another reason for a war in the middle east or are the conflicts in the middle east just battle hardening troops for russia, india and the US vs China.
On the flip side gauging by history in Ireland, terrorist acts increased as the end of conflict was nearing. Perhaps increased attacks is a sign that peace isn't far away.
Peace is a mile off. Never really been part of the Human Condition anyway.
What is concerning thou is the vast array of players involved:
Terroism
Russia v the US
North Korea
China starting to get antsy
Africa as f ed as ever
the amount of players with divergent interests and no scope for negotiation makes this very dangerous. A tinterbox (WW1 style if you want). Combined with a screwed economy worldwide, millions of disenfranchised and a loss of the power of state (while not bad in of itself means any charismatic meathead with a functioning internet can start a movement) and it is game on.
Growing up I always though how insane the WWs were and we will never see anything like that again. Now I'm really not so sure. Lot of trigger happy people out there.

Gotta love big governments
In what sense? The tax collected or the sheer size. The Big Government problem is there are simply too many entrenched layers. The elected representatives do their thing and if they want to fund key essential services- (which they should) hospitals, schools, major roads and networks etc etc give the money direct to the pros (public or private sector) and let the workers work. While it seems I'm arguing both ways it is more the layer upon layer of red tape that is unbelievable. It's a wonder anything is done.
Take defence. Defence Minister heads the department - to the army and police. Instead there is layer upon layer and duplicate agencies which grow fatter and more powerful and push their own agenda like a business. The US or NK and their Military Industrial Complex is a prime example.
