The thing is with Bicknell is that he's never going to go on tour with England unless he takes about 10 for in both these alst 2 Tests so what's the point?

I Guess if Bicknell does come off at Headingley they'll be 2-1 up, not the worst with the bat either... Still no future in it, but it wouldn't be the first time the England selectors have done this.

Ah I've just had a look & Ali is in the squad as well but worryingly proving my earlier point the chairman of selector's said this:

Graveney continued, "We have added Kabir Ali and Martin Bicknell to the squad to give us more seam-bowling options on a ground which can be helpful to their type of bowling."

They always fall into this trap, any ground in England can be helpful to swing (& to a lesser degree seam) bowling when the weather's right but as has been proved in the past when we've gone into Headingley with 5 seam/swing bowlers is that when it's clear & hot or even clear & cool sometimes the ball doesn't move around & these sort of bowlers become impotent.

Then you wish you had spinner or some genuine pace.

If the ball's swinging then in my view 4 or 5 swing bowlers isn't going to do you much more good than 2 or 3 anyway & we've already got Kirtley & Anderson sos urely we only needed one more added to the squad.

Harmison anyone? :)

You have Anderson, he's quick.

As for the spinner what's Peter Sutch up to these days...

Yeah he's quickish but not quick enough to cause probelms on a flat pitch through his pace alone, he didn't look too good in the first 2 Tests when he wasn't swinging it.

For me you either need real pace or to be a big tall bloke who gets steep bounce & has a great control of line & length-now which of those characteristsics do you think that Steve Harmison is missing?:D

BTW what do you think of Anderson?Do you rate him?

Well the not so funny thing is that he's been far from the worse of the bunch that played for England in the 90s-Udal/Croft/Illingworth

I think England only won the test because they batted 1st. That was a very important toss to win with a terrible pitch. Batting on the 5th day was almost impossible. For England to bat like they did in the 2nd innings shows they didn't deserve to win. They were saved by rain in the 1st test.

I agree that batting first won us the game but we didn't bat any worse than them in the 2nd innings.
