One stat people may be interested in; according to the AFL site, James Kelly is leading the clubs goal assists with 10 (and equal first overall in the comp.) Johnson and Mooney are next with 7 a piece.

Not too bad, not too bad at all.

Kelly does seem to have stepped up a level this year. Always been a very good player, but got overtaken by Bartel and Ablett. Now he's showing his best.
Pleasently surprised that Moons is no 3, I thought Stokes might have had that.

gotta love the change of stevie, few years back he wouldnt of contemplated setting up others!!! freakshow.

love watchin kelly when hes playing around a flank/pocket, adds another dimension and it really suits his style (as he is lacking a touch of pace for regular midfielder)

The love for James Kelly is returning to the 2004 level.

strongly agree.

after an insipid 2006 and below par '07, I thought he was heading down trade bait street.

But he has killed it thus far and I reckon Bomber rotating him through the forward flanks and centre is working well for him and the team.

Disagree with the bit about a 'below par '07', after '06 I thought he was pretty solid last year and got better as the year went on. Especially early in the GF he was very good and very hard at the ball.

But yeah very happy about his form this year, regardless if he's playing forward or on the ball.:thumbsu:

Kelly is faster than everyone in our midfield except for Ablett. If you pay close attention next time you may notice he has quite a high top speed.

I was probably a bit harsh on him as he was BOG a couple of times during 07 but I felt he never imposed himself on games like he is doing now. His hardness at the ball is the best I've seen since he broke his leg at Subby

Stokes is 4th I believe, sitting on 6 goal assists.

I find the reasonably large discrepencies between the various statisticians (afl.com, PRO-Stats, HUN etc) pretty amusing - not sure how difficult it is to account for a score/goal assist. Should be one of the more easier stats to note down I would have thought. I say this because various stat centres have credited players with varying score/goal assist numbers (including Kel), when I've looked it up.

But I digress. In any case, the fact that Kel is figuring thereabouts in such a stat is probably just a by-product of his improving performances this season. He has been immense for us this season. Just when I thought he had it all figured out last season (finding his niche as a rotating half forward flanker/midfielder), he lifts his game another notch. I've said it before, his contested work in close, in packs, and in one on one situations is probably in top couple or so at the club, and these 'bursts' of high-intensity football are coming more regularly now.

His finishing game is still very much a work in progress (struggles to weigh his kicks appropriately at times, still), but the fact that he is consistently looking forward, looking ahead, and looking to play on to the advantage of the team everytime he has the ball near our forward 50 is probably clearly highlighted here. Choosing better options and executing these decisions much more cleanly with his forays into the forward fifty.

I agree although in relation to their respective roles I feel that Kelly is fast catching up.
