In all seriousness if we don't have:

Cloke 60+
Elliott 40+
Reid/White/Witts/Grundy between them 70+
The rest 120+

We aren't going to do much. Our season total should be over 300 goals, averaging 13 - 15 goals per game.

Our big guns need to combine for over 150 goals and less than 150 behinds.

We can dream though.
Too simplistic, improved defensive midfield and back pressure can reduce opposition scoring, lessening the need to high scoring.

That's because Armstrong has played in the backline his entire career.

And it's also because why Gault is more likely to kick 20 goals than Armstrong ;)

Don't forget varcoe he's a lock for 25-30.

I love your optimism, though a 'lock' when he has only kicked more than 20 goals in a year twice, and even then not since 2011 when nearly a quarter of his goals for the year were against a team he will never get to play against again? To quote Inigo Montoya:

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means"

I certainly agree with that. However recent times have shown that the winning teams kick 300+ goals a season, some nearly 400. This year we didn't come close to 300 and I'd have to say it was one the worst I've seen from the Pies in the last 7 or 8 years.

I'm not trying to be antagonistic jonbe and I respect your opinion, even agree with it, but Ross Lyon hasn't won a flag and I don't think he ever will. Defence is important but kicking goals wins games in AFL, it's not soccer.

Pendles 2105> Pendles 2014

Good to see that we've got plenty of time up our sleeves to get Pendles another flag before he calls it a day...

On a more serious note the best thing for our goal kickers and scoring in general will be having some sort of game plan to bring the ball quickly into F50 in a manner that gives our forwards a better than 40-60 chance of getting a one on one and/or being able to lead out into space.

Anything will do really, because we clearly haven't had much of one for the past couple of years.

We also need to curb the phenomenon of midfielders and even half backs drifting into F50 and clogging up space a lot of the time - players definitely don't need to be standing still (often in areas forwards would perhaps be able to lead into 25-30m out from goal) inside F50 waving their arms and hoping to cherry pick when we are pushing forward after regaining possession at half back or in the midfield.

When there's a stoppage in our F50 then fine, by all means set up the zone to try to keep the ball in, but if we're bringing the ball into F50 then get the bloody hell out of the way and let the big boys do their job without you dragging your opponent into the vicinity.

My point PT is that there is more than one way to skin a cat.
You play what player mix you have and adjust your gameplan to suit.
Just because the current 'go' mix is 300 doesn't mean it will remain so.

Footy is dynamic and ever changing PT - look at how quickly our forward press 'go' mix was overcome.
NOTHING remains the same and the premiers are usually those that INNOVATE rather than following the crowd.

EFA

I'd be happy if we just fixed our conversion rate.
Bugger this forward half pressure bull sh#t.
How about scoreboard pressure.
Instead of kicking 10.15 75
How about we kick 15.10 100.

Do that and we will win more games than we lose.
Simple.
Spot on.
