Goddard just isn't a very good leader. He is an individual and a selfish footballer.

Agreed.

They should give it to someone who can help teach the young guys, not berate them as he sits on his own trying to get cheapies.

Our best player will probably be Zach Merrett, but he's too young at this point.

Zaharakis is experienced, but he doesn't really play like a leader.

I'd rather Baguley to Goddard in some ways, but really Goddard with his experience was always going to be the logical choice.

Goddard for captain they're saying. don't like the way the bloke blames other team mates but is there anyone else they can appoint?
The bloke is a professional in driving high standards at training which Woosha has been preaching since he arrived.
Goddard has too short a fuse to be an effective captain of this team. The team that gets on field will be a cobbled up, 2nd rate team with very little experience of playing together, trying to play the game plan of a new coach. Angry finger pointing is going to be counter- productive.
Don't know enough about the others to say who would be best. Imagine the movie if BG doesn't get the captaincy and the Bombers just fail in the grand final!
Seriously though, the bloke looks like he needs anger management pills. Whoops.

I for one would be pretty pissed off having to listen to a drug cheat commentating during his suspension

I know this is off-topic from the OP, but I just read of the suggestion for Jobe Watson to work at Fox Footy this year while he is suspended from playing (Fox has declined to comment at this time).

Something wouldn't feel right about these Essendon players doing special comments / ground reports while serving their ban for drug cheating. My thought is that the players should just "disappear" for the rest of the year and come back fresh in 2017. Regular appearances in the media will just drag the saga out even longer.

Your thoughts?

Absolutely agree with you

How will it drag out the saga exactly?

tbh, Watson and Heppell are the only players the media would be interested in. I don't think any of the others have the profile or skills to get a gig.

My view is that having them appear in the media regularly will result in a continued discussion/debate/analysis of the whole matter. I can just see Bruce or Dwayne turning to Jobe after a close Essendon loss and saying "That was a near miss today for the Bombers. Do you think the result would have been different if you were playing?" The best way to avoid these types of awkward situations is for the players not to be in the media.

When James Hird resigned last year, he said that he wanted to create clear air for the football club going forward (i.e. have a clean break between the past and the future). A year out of the spotlight for the banned 17 AFL players would be a good way to do this.

Yep disappear to Gaelic football Ireland, train with Dalton and co. at Cinncinati or visit Haynes at San Francisco, and if some can come back cool, but for others will see.

I think he should hand back the award and then flap off for eternity.

Personally would say joint captains in Bagley & Zaharakis as co-captains.

Would have Goddard, Bird & Cooney in the leadership group. It's going to be an inexperienced team and they need leaders.

I don't think a player like daniher should be rushed to captain, there are a lot of examples of young captains leaders having to much pressure.

Quick glance back simply highlighted to me the general mood of sinking the boot in at any chance. Even to their innocents and the one and only gun left standing and holding the mop in the dunny.

Finger points far less than Hodge. Has performed at a high level in big games. Increased skill levels across the board in his first yr.
etc etc.
Cant see any reason to knock the bloke nor think he isnt the best man for the job right now. It doesnt matter if he isnt the best natural skipper going around. They are lucky he's there for starters.

Easiest thing would be to knock it back thinking it can only hurt his legacy when he retires. Lets face it, who the hell would want the job knowing it will be instant criticism no matter what u do?

They paid good money for a serious A grader and he paid them back in the first yr alone. He could have gone anywhere and now finds himself on a hiding to nothing...there isnt a damn thing that he could get praise for, and now he'd need to double up his own game to get any individual cred. If he isnt winning games off his own boot (now almost impossible) he'll cop criticism for not "leading from the front".

I dont feel sympathy for him, but can at least show some respect for his contribution.
