See unlike a club like North Melbourne who seem to lack any sort of conviction in giving Swallow the job again or passing it on to someone else, the Essendon players have decided on Goddard. The contrarian view is it says a lot about the rabble that are left that they'd form a differing opinion to a highly successful and experienced footballer, who has worked as part of team to achieve the ultimate success regularly.

Essendon have simply appointed the best player as captain - that isn't always the best policy.
