That X gesture he made was not infact at Xavier Clarke (well done Bucks) but a handcuffs gesture to his brother in jail. I remember some soccer player doing it a while ago. Anyway, i don't see why this has caused controversy, he can tribute whoever he wants.

i don't even think it was a tribute mate, more a show of a support?

Tim Cahill was the soccer player to recently do it.

Theirs already talk about this in the media thread FWIW

I think you will find Micheal Gardiner did a very similar gesture in 2005 while playing for West Coast.

Non issue. People need to get a life. There are more important issues in the world to worry about. If this is the biggest concern going on around the world currently, then we are laughing. Unfortunley, it's not.

I think Buckley and the Ch.7 commentators probably had a fair idea about what the gesture was for but pretended to play dumb about it, or at least I hope they did. I laughed when he said it was a gesture for Xavier Clarke.

They were making a big fuss about it on the footy panel shows this morning but I can't see what the problem is. A lot of players make gestures after they score a goal, as long as it's not too over the top it shouldn't be an issue.

IMHO these goalkicking celebrations can quickly get out of hand and become ugly, what will be next ,choking signals,Nazi salutes.
The club should jump on it now.

I think it ws just horrible context as I stated before, the entire thing was labelled a celebration when it was a show of respect and it was to his brother who was then referred to constantly as "the criminal" so there was a lot of negativity surrounding this as soon as the motive came out that was just jumped upon by everyone with a negative opinion about it.

I mean are we at a point where people cannot dedicate minor feats to family, friends, pets or Luke Skywalker's ghost now without rampant condemnation of said actions?

I don't think it's a big issue but I don't see why it needs to be done either - or commented on in the media by Goddard. If you want to tribute something to your brother in the can for selling smack, give a signal nobody else will understand. Don't give the "support for crooks" symbol w***er sportspeople do all over the world. Just unwanted attention for us.

typical tabloid: this non-event gets in the way of other, more important news!

Like L2M4G snaffling Medallion Club seats?

Or people looking for controversy where none exist to sell papers?

Exactly. Just look at the media beat up over the North Melbourne chicken video. Just like the Goddard incident, there's nothing in it but the media tries to turn it into a big controversy to sell papers, boost ratings etc.

They jump all over these trivial little incidents, make a big deal out of it for a few days. Then by next week it's all forgotten about and on to the next trivial incident.

Early first quater blunder again & again by the umpires deprives goddard a obvious goal-a fair handball to goddard not seen by THE umpires-maybe they still think THOMAS IS STILL COACHING WHEN HE CRITSIZED THE STANDARD OF UMPIRING ON RADIO SEN--and he is right.....the umps were seeking revenge again..IMO

If I collect $3000 for him winning the brownlow you can have all the credit you like. Do you want to take the credit for the decision to start him in the forward line as well? :p
