Well that was quick, seems like St. Kilda weren't overly keen on keeping him...not at that price anyway. Risky move by the Bombers but if they give him the role he wants both he and the club could return to the elite.
Listening to Pelchen it was more the 4th year than the cash

That's pretty gutsy to lose a player over an extra year...I know Collingwood toyed with it re:Cloke, but surely St. Kilda played around with an incentive based 4th year? I haven't been following this Goddard business much so it's probably already been covered in this thread.
Anyway, it's done. Essendons' midfield is going to be powerful next year.

*hopes Goddard is still a back men in dream team*

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
The Bombers finally land a ****ing big fish, THANK YOU FREE AGENCY!

In all seriousness, I hope that St.Kilda fans aren't too bothered by this, hopefully you guys can land a few younger players to bolster your rebuild after your premiership tilts.

Congrats Essendon, pretty risky move though.

I've always considered Godard as a good player who had a couple of cracking seasons while the Saints were up and about but otherwise fairly ho hum in respect to the rating he garners from many. Is he worth the price tag?

Could end up being a disaster for the Bombers or a masterstroke. Time will tell

I don't usually like St Kilda much but not taking all the available time is an admirable move. Hope they trade their compo pick and get Caddy

It's a massive win for Essendon. They better be careful that BJ isn't plagued by soft tissue injuries for the rest of his career :p

Goddard could be AA next season or could be a flop. As a neutral who doesn't overly care about St Kilda, Essendon or Goddard, I'm pretty curious to see how this one pans out.

Will Saints now offer their compensation pick for Caddy and if so, is it more enticing than Geelong's compo pick?

If its really only 1.9 mil for four years, I'm actually disappointed that Melbourne didn't offer him a bit more.

That said, it sounds like finals are his priority, so the Dees probably had no chance anyway. Great pickup by the Dons.

Will be very interested to see if Goddard can take his game to another level.

He's not an elite midfielder, backman (was elite as loose across half back) or forward.

What role do Bomber fans see him playing? Midfield, loose man across half back?

It may or may not be a good move when we look back in a few years. However Goddard has been one of my favourite players for a number of years and could not be happier right now! :)

Going to be very interesting to see where they play him, from the outside it looked like he was all over the shop at times at the Saints. Where does he actually fit in at the Bombers as well?

Reckon he’ll split his time between half back and midfield.

As other have pointed out, he’s one of those blokes who will be good to have not just for what he offers, but also for his ability to take opposition heat off the like of Heppell, Zaka and Stanton. God knows we need more blokes rotating.

kudos to Essendon, IMO will be very valuable and give Dyson someone to look up to

St Kilda offered him 1.9 million over 3 years. Essendon apparently offered him 2.9 million over 4 years.
