In my opinion one of the reasons teams at the bottom have had difficulty getting off the bottom is the expansion teams. The cream was being taken before they had a chance to get some.

The problem before GWS and GC was never that there wasn't enough talent, lots of top kids were left playing WAFL and given enough time they proved themselves and got drafted. Now the talent pool is thinner the regions that produce these kids never get the benefits like having home grown talent play when they aren't selected to play AFL because they are on the other side of the Country. I see it first hand here where I live in Peel and its quite disheartening to watch them go and not come back, won't be long before we become soccer and its just a mercenaries game.

Giving up spare cash for a player to play 2s is not a massive problem, a 1st round draft pick on the other hand well thats a different story.
