in you saying that mate il give yousome bad news and let you know one of hurleys older brothers in daniel lives up the gold coast somewhere and im pretty sure his sister bridget also is there not 100 percent about her though....

Not sure how it is bad news, not everyone has to follow their family around and he still has family in Melbourne.
If we all wanted to live in our families pockets then no one would ever venture overseas or even to another state.

Hurley will make a decision some time during the year and until then it is all speculation. No one has the inside scoop at the moment as there has been no decision made.
He could go to the Gold Coast and become the young face of the Coast or he could stay.

The one thing that Essendon have done is make sure they have room in the cap to offer the young blokes a good deal to stay around.

Not bad news at all. If Hurley wants to go up there then by all means he can go. Hopefully he stays but any player that doesn't want to play for Essendon can go.

Just after some clarity. GC have an extra million to spend on an extra 10 players until 2015 (when they are in line with all others) plus, a lot of their players will be young and not command that big a salary. But, GC need to still make sure that in a couple of years time when there young kids start making reputations they will still have room to increase their pay.
Seems that they are far more likely to spend the big money on players that 26-27 who will be retiring when their young kids start asking for pay rises. They can't afford to pay above market rates for kids like Hurley and Pears who are also going to be asking for pay rises the contract after (Though they would be idiots not to talk to them just to find out the situation)

Exactly. :thumbsu:

When you think about it, we're really in a good position as far as where the club is at in terms of it's lifecycle. We've had a few big stars retire making room in the cap and we've drafted really well (I reckon) over the last couple of years while the drafting was good.

Hopefully the years of pain we've gone through since 2002 will soon be a distant memory.

GC to target key defenders for 2011
GOLD Coast could target key defenders from opposition clubs when it comes to settling its list for the 2011 season.
Football manager Marcus Ashcroft said the current list would be enriched by the addition of some taller key backline players, and the deficiencies could be filled by players whose AFL contracts were approaching an end in 2010.

Hurley's contract finishes at the end of 2010...
Knights has enough of a mancrush on Hurley to pull through this, surely.

I think if we lost pears it would be just as shattering! If we are likely to lose a key defender it would probably be someone like hooker or something.. Hopefully none but anyway i dont think Essendon would let any of our young guys go cheaply! When is Pears contracted until?

Haha, perhaps I should rephrase what I said...

"Success feels better when you've sobbed hard for it."

:D

Gold... I feel your pain bloke.. where do you guys reckon it was at its worst? Sure, it could have been the constant pumpings where opposition key forwards destroyed us.. however I recall a time, I believe in 05.. where we'd be in games only to get blown away in last quarters.. consistently... they were tough times..

The 143 odd point drubbing by Adelaide a year or two ago was pretty painful from memory. Forced myself to watch every minute of it.

Agony.

Obviously there is every chance that Hurley could go but i would be surprised. Given what i have read about him in scouting reports that contained character assements i could really not see him going after being handed the 18 jumper from Lloyd or after being around for 2 years.
You can never say never but it would not match what people have said about his character.
