Mentioned this in previous threads and got flamed. I'm a massive Lamb fan but we didn't need him, and we needed someone like Blakely.

One was always going to be a flight risk and the other wasn't.

Boggles the mind how our recruiters think sometimes. Take Blakely and you don't need to waste your first pick on Redden.
They seem to genuinely think that there's nothing seriously wrong with our midfield that adding 1 or 2 extra, average, one dimensional players can't fix.

Good
* Yellow Peril's debut against Adelaide

Bad
* Tom Barrass's new "Mcdougall hairdo" can only be a bad omen for the rest of his career

Ugly
*The fact we have to play the Crows in Adelaide again later this year. You can bookmark that as a 100 point loss

*4th quarter was literally one of the worst home displays from the Eagles i've seen. In the same league as the final games under Worsfold and the Geelong sandwich-gate game in 2008

It's the problem with having lots of decent B graders.

Someone here mentioned Freo's midfield in the Peter Bell days. It's a bit like that.

Freo then had a massive cleanout over a couple of years which turned them into a top 4 side, but ****ed it up by drafting too many skinny flankers instead of KPP.

Masten isn't even WAFL quality. Such shit player who is fortunate to be on an AFL list because he's related to management

Congratulations, this has got to be the most ridiculous post I have read post match.

He's 25 and had played 129 games.

Jetta is 27 and had played 127 games.

I don't see the difference they/you are.

The stats are similar - you have highlighted that. I'm sure you would agree that both players had different expectation internally and externally?

Just because players have had a similar amount of games doesn't mean they are at the same point in their careers.

I'd say both players came in with expectations that they would slot in and perform from day dot. Those expectations may have been tempered somewhat by Redden's fitness - but so should have Jetta's.

Basically identical scenarios.

Thanks but I don't need your congratulations. Facts are facts.
Actually if there are facts in this massive over reaction they are pretty well hidden. There was a comment earlier criticising Priddis for poor disposal. I'm not a Priddis fan but I watched the game at my leisure today with the benefit of slow mo and replays. Priddis made 2 mistakes that I saw. One was calling for the ball when he was not clear when he should have been telling his teammate he was clear and the other was bombing the ball when under no pressure himself. The Crows were kept in the game in the third quarter by the umps and the Eagles came off the back of a tough game in Melbourne with a 6 day break yet they looked pretty good for most of the game. The Crows were better on the day but gee things rolled well for them.

People here criticising Yeo and Masten. Both worked bloody hard for most of the game chasing poor delivery and would have been among the best players until half way through the 3rd. I'll concede Schofield made some mistakes and that he is not really good one on one but he does give it his all. Maybe he needs a different role. Certainly playing on Betts shouldn't be one of them. Hutchings is an average player and his fumbles do cost us but again, you can't fault his endeavour. Hill played well but we missed his creativity in the forward line. Both Nic and Lycett were down but that happens.

The one thing I do agree on is that we have far too many one paced players in the midfield. If you are settling for slow players then you need the Priddises. Redderns and Hutchings to work hard getting the ball out. Otherwise pacy players just run forward and that is exactly what happened here and last week. Time to develop some more mids from the ones we have on the list. In saying that tho' you need someone who competes rather tham just lingers on the outside for easy kicks (Jetta). The worrying thing is that Gaff has become a one paced player with crap disposal and I would trade him in a heartbeat to try and get better recruits.

The current crop of players have no natural aggression, what I mean by that when they are aggressive/hungry it's a mental choice for them to be that way, they have to tell themselves to be hungry, it does not come naturally to them not in their instinct.

The only one that shows it is Duggan.
I think it's only fair to add Lycett to that list (if you can call two items a "list"). He has been a standout in that department all season.

That is the thing Winky, Priddas gets rewarded for an effective disposal hand balling to a team mate under immense pressure. He does this time after time after time. It is not his fault he is rewarded on the stats sheet for it but it is terrible football.
The one thing Kerr was great at was in congestion hand balling out into space, why can't Priddas do that instead of two feet little handballs to someone else under the pump.
It's not just Priddas mind you the whole bloody side does it. Shep did it about 5 times last night feeding to a guy running past who was hot, where is their awareness?
You can see it happening in the stands and I'm thinking don't feed it to him, don't feed it to him but sure as hell he does, turnover and we get hurt.

As I said, I am not a massive Priddis fan for the very reason you have highlighted, but his game yesterday and last week were very good and the scrappy disposals justified by the position he found himself in. My major problem with Priddis is that opposition mids just run off him and that creates loose men and problems for our backs. He simply jogs along as he knows he can't keep up. He is not alone though and the chasing is left to Shuey, Yeo and Natanui. No wonder they fade a bit in final quarters.

Sam Mitchell, Scott Thompson, josh Kennedy, Tom Mitchell are all similar types. Difference is because they all have teammates who can win hard ball they're not exposed as frequently on the way back. With us its Priddis>>>>>>>shuey>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bust otherwise we lose clearances

Good - No more whinging on this board about how the media have concocted this theory we are flat trackers! Surely we can all accept that when the heats on we are the first out of the kitchen.

Bad - Gave up

Ugly - 2013 replay

The thing I've noticed a lot more his year is that we are being reactive instead of proactive. We should be setting the standard if play and not waiting for the opposition, then reacting. My two bobs worth anyway.

Given Lecras' and Cripps' form in the forward line this year, could someone please explain the logic behind trialling Hill as a back?
Quicker ball movement, rebound and transition from defense into attack.

He's a pretty good kick, and pretty composed as well.

Well I think Simpson felt we needed help down back. Whether someone else should have filled the role is certainly worthy of debate.
One thing I will say though is that Hill has been in pretty good form lately. Given how much time the ball was spending in our backline and how little it stayed up forward, having an in-form guy in the area where the heat was on was not a bad thing.

For long stretches over his career, Hill has been a regular inclusion in the "who should be dropped" conversations, but right now to his credit he's staying well clear of them.

I've been thinking that, especially seeing as he was so good in the forward line last year. It makes no sense whatsoever.

I agree we would like him up forward but he is probably playing the best footy of his career. When he gets the ball he generally makes good decisions and gives us a chance to open the game up, unfortunately his dumb team mates don't know how to do it and keep stuffing it up.
I have been a Hill fan for years even when everyone kept saying he didn't go hard enough and was soft. I am happy for him that he is playing well now.
