Review Good, Bad, and Ugly vs GWS

The Hill was chock-a-block and so was the eastern stand where I was. There was a sparse corner in the west of Riverbank and there was one bay of the western stand that was no doubt half-occupied by disinterested AFL/GW$ corporates who left at half time.
I was in the riverbank and there were plenty around me and looking across, also quite a few dotted around the eastern stand.

Tex and Jenkins poor. Really struggled, especially Jenkins.
Very good post.
Only thing I'd dispute --- mildly --- is quoted part. Tex has on-field presence. Like Franklin, Jonathon Brown, Carey, Plugger and others. You can't train that into someone, and you can't buy it. He lifts the team, organises on-field tactics and brings others into the game and not only by goal assists at which he is terrific. 1.3 from set shots should have been 3.1, but he'll fix that for the Prelim.
Jenkins was physical, provided a target and contest and often brought the ball to ground for our smalls to profit. Not his best game, sure, but not his worst either.

On a wet night you can't expect too much from your bigs. Jenkins halved every contest he was in whether it was 1v1 or 1v2, 1v3, etc. He allowed our smalls to get into the game and provided a handy chop out for Sauce.

Agreed...does anyone know which toe he injured and on which foot? My guess is that it's a fracture of some sort, and there's probably some numbness in his foot, hence he's holding back a little. Hope to God he's right for the prelim.

JJ described it as Turf Toe on the SEN interview he did Wednesday. A quick search on Dr Google reveals this:

Most cases of turf toe are treated without surgery. Nonsurgical treatment is determined by the grade of the injury.
  • Grade 1. The RICE protocol is recommended for this type of injury: Rest, ice, compression, and elevation. Taping the big toe to the smaller toes will restrict motion. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications may relieve pain and swelling. Pain is usually tolerable and an athlete can continue sports participation using a stiff-soled shoe. Orthotics, such as a thin, graphite shoe insert with a rigid forefoot component, can reduce stress on the plantar plate and provide stability.
  • Grade 2. To keep the MTP joint immobilized, a walking boot may be prescribed for up to a week if needed. Afterwards, these injuries are managed with a taping regimen and the Grade 1 treatments discussed above. In most cases, an athlete with a Grade 2 injury needs 3 to 14 days of rest before returning to play.
  • Grade 3. These more severe injuries are most often treated with immobilization for several weeks. The athlete may wear a walking boot or be put in a cast that keeps the big toe in a partially pointed down position. As the injury heals, treatment will gradually step down to Grade 2 and then to Grade 1. Physical therapy may be helpful and should be started as soon as symptoms allow. Specific exercises will help to stretch and strengthen the big toe. Early joint movement is essential for reducing or preventing joint stiffness.

Thanks for that, please find and post more of their mindless rubbish.
My faves:
I want to play the mob and beat them. GWS are deplorable.

Crows have not looked that great this game
Played one 9/10 performance in the 2nd after horrible first qtr and coasted since
Going to piss in a win off the back of 20 mins of footy

Seedsman is shit

EVERYbody wants to beat us. That's the only way to the 2017 Flag. Poster must have missed the record 84-point hiding a few weeks back .

Led by 2 goals at 1/4 time, then 55 to 11 at the half. That's an hour of footy and it was beautiful to watch.

Seedsman's goal from the R forward pocket was sublime set-shot kicking.

(Also noted their repeated references to Sydney, and not their own team!
Ah-HEE, AH-HOO!! <== me, laughing at PA and their miserable fans)

Good: We won despite our key forwards not having a huge influence. The lesser lights stood up (Knight, Dougie, Mackay). Lynch's two way running was excellent, and both Crouch boys were fantastic, as was Sauce. Other's all did what they needed to do.
Bad: Tex's and the Guv's misses - felt we should have won by at least 10 goals.
Ugly: Smither's injury - I put the mozz on him in the Mr September thread on the main board. Hope he comes back better than ever next year.

Just need to give a big shout out to David Mackay.
So, congrats DMac. Great to see someone play their best game when the team needs it most. Awesome.
Gave this a 'like' but that doesn't cover it.
There are not enough letters in the word 'like' to convey what a terrific post it was for Dmac.
(dare I add that it's about time he played like that? ;) he's been heading that way for a few weeks now)

Hey guys - what was your opinion of the Eddie Betts tackle in the second quarter? There was a GWS free kick in the back pocket, the player took a step off the mark and Betts nailed him from behind.

I don't really like to see that. It seems pretty unfair on the player taking the free kick.

Eddie is a smart, skillful, exciting player - this isn't a criticism of him. I just think the rules need to be changed, otherwise every small forward in the competition will start doing it.

I'd like to see that protected area behind the player taking a free kick treated as "offside". You don't need to vacate the zone, but if you interfere in the play then it's a penalty against you.

Cheers.

Dave P.
The mistake was the GWS player running past Lobbe in the protected zone. In that case (Eddie) is allowed to follow or keep up with him. Was just bad luck the umpire called play on at that moment.

Had you covered all night long
Yep.
*sings*
People dancing on the hill
See the rhythm, watch them thrill (all night long)
Life is good, wild and sweet
Let the Crows play on (play on, play on ...)
All night long (all night), all night (all night)
All night long (all night), all night (all night)

It has been mentioned somewhere that he has turf toe. According to Google that is the hyper-extension of the big toe.

I did think whether Eddie intentionally hangs around in the zone pretending to be following another player but actually waiting to tackle in a play on situation.

But he's entitled to be there. The attacking team has to clear the zone as much as the defending team.

Think it was just poor awareness from Lobb. And his team mates should have cleared away quicker. Then Eddie would have had to get out faster or it's 50.

If it was further up the field then no one would comment. Just poorly executed by GWS with no communication.

On the crowd figure / turnstile issue: I just spoke to someone who was (also) stuck in the queue at the Eastern gate - he said they walked in without having their tickets scanned (there were some poor guys waving handheld scanners at any ticket they could grab as the crowd surged past, but they missed some).

To add to this, issues happened at the Western Stand Members entry gate. Many ticket holders without western-stand members tickets were trying to use the members turnstyle machines thinking they could sneak through the huge lines and in turn were holding up those lines too. A family in front of me thought they could sneak in after getting to the front of the line but were told to go back. Some people were going under the turnstyles to get in. There were quite a few people sneaking into other peoples seats up in the stands too, being told to GTFO after being caught out. Bit of a joke the whole thing was.

Also noted - Phil Davis came over to most of the Crows including staff and - Smithers and Sauce in particular after the game. Guy has class.
