Some thoughts....
heck Bicks and Jonas are our goal kicking coaches, equal worst in the league...time for a change maybe?

Cornsey actually asked the question surely you have to replace them?
Hopefully the answer in Sando's head .... yep at the end of the year.

Sometimes the coaches you have just ain't good enough. Keeping them and trying to make them better is great if you were doing something where those being coached only have a limited time to turn things around and can't wait for you as a goal kicking coach to improve.

Jarman and Mods would be pretty good upgrades don't you think? Why haven't they been canvassed? Sando says we're doing everything we can, but I call BS on that. Getting Carey or even the Fossil with his heck school to come in as consultants could do better than Bicks...

Other coaches might be working their backsides off, but its pretty clear we need some different voices and different talent who are hopefully better than what we have right now.

Just feel the loss of Bailey's advice and the need to be ruthless, both with his assistants and his players is going to be the downfall of Sando. Don't think he can turn it around this year.

Thanks rocket18 - well said :thumbsu:.

A very valid point.

What I'm fed up with is people rating player performance on number of possessions gathered. Sure, if you're a Midfielder that can barely manage 10 touches, then it's obvious you're not up to scratch. But what I'm utterly sick and tired of is players being put on a pedestal purely because of their total possession count. And a prime example of this is Thommo. Make no mistake, he gets a lot of the ball, but what does he actually do with it? Typically hand it off to the next player 2 metres away without taking more than 3 steps. And as it's been stated, he rarely gets tagged. For a prime ball-gatherer, this speaks volumes. What smart coaches do is target the prime ball movers, more so than the ball getters.
If you want to measure a player's effectiveness during a game, look at two basic stats above all others:
  • How many goals they kick.
  • How much effective mileage do they make with the Ball....towards goals, either by running or disposal that hits a target. Not bl00dy sideways passes.
And completely and utterly forget about possession count. If we were able to measure this - i.e. effective yardage gained - this would put things in an entirely different perspective. Then I'd like to see how Thommo fares. We need blokes that can seriously move the Ball forwards, not play pass-the-parcel.

Time and again I've seen us win the stoppage/clearance count, only to lose the game. We clear the ball out from the congestion, only to cough it up 2-3 possessions later. Unfortunately, Sando is in love with Thommo because he is good at winning the in-and-under hard ball, but absolutely nothing else.

....'pass-the-parcel' Great line!:)

If he doesn't make some coaching changes at the end of the year, my head is going to explode.

Now that Roo has joined The Board....the way I reckon it's gonna pan out, there's definitely gonna be changes that most people reading this Forum will give the :thumbsu: up. But having said that, I think these changes will be something along the lines of:

"A bit here, a bit there. A bit of a trim at the back."

I doubt that it'll be:

"Trigg and Chapman gone. Then Roo cleans out the entire Board, before emptying the Coaches' Box and starting again."

I think Roo will change some stuff, then people will comment they're good changes....steps in the right direction....just not enough.
If you look at realistically, from Roo's perspective - I just can't seem him taking an axe to everything, as much as many people here (including me) might like.

I will get flamed for this, but i'm surprised reading this thread how little credit anyone gives to Essendon or even discusses what Essendon did in the game? After reading about 4 pages where we were not even mentioned i started doing a word search to try to cut to people actually discussing both sides. I then found page after page of Essendon either not being mentioned at all or maybe mentioned once. I get it that people are unhappy with aspects of Adelaide's game, but i didn't think either side was anywhere near as bad as people are making out. I think i found one post (out of about 12 pages) that suggested that Essendon played a good game and closed down Adelaide's options.
All supporters tend to look at their own sides game the vast majority of the time, i have no issue with that. But i am a little surprised that there was no credit given to how tightly Essendon defended the ground, which in turn would lead to cutting Adelaide some slack for the loss. I thought it was a great effort from your guys to win the last three quarters, and i think Essendons game in the first quarter was absolutely top shelf and gritty for the rest of the game. Both sides looked super dangerous on the burst and would have given most other sides in the comp a run for their money overall.
Based on signs you guys showed particularly in the second half, i wouldn't be putting money on Port this week...

I don't really understand the significance on having Roo in the board of directors. Wouldn't he more likely just become another yes man? Why do people think he's going to shake things up?

There's no use dwelling on things out of our control, like how switched on our opposition is on the day. We've got a fair few problems to deal with right now that most supporters of other clubs don't realise and they tend to monopolise most of our attention.

Jenkins won goal of the week :) Looks like people stopped voting for Howlett once they started talking about it being a behind in the media.

Interesting enough Adelaide teams have won goal of the week the last 3 weeks and have had a player nominated the last 6 weeks. 11/14 weeks a player from an Adelaide team has been nominated. There must be something in the water ;)

We're used to those signs meaning nothing.

Its the joy of being a middling team. Expectations run high... There is full entitlement to crushing bottom sides plus full entitlement to matching it with the best. Neither happen consistently. It's so hard to pick out what it is that allows a team that seems to have the cattle to become a top four side. Meanwhile making the 8 comes down to whether you ended up a goal in front rather than a goal behind often enough...
