Cursed Dogs....
No Twin Eagle wailing solo's

No permed long blonde hair

No streamers tied around the elbows

No tight leather pants....

Just a list of good Thrash/speed metal bands. That would be very much appreciated.

Rather than sifting through the shit to find the gold, if there is a thrash band you feel is worthy of a mention, please give us a bio, a discography, whatever.....

Cheers!

Sanctity is an American thrash metal band from Asheville, North Carolina.

//
History

After touring extensively around the North Carolina, Tennessee and South Carolina areas, Sanctity got their break after Trivium saw the band perform live at a gig in South Carolina. Matt Heafy, impressed with what he saw, received the band's recorded material, and passed in on to Roadrunner's A&R person Monte Conner.
In early 2006, the band self-financed and produced a music video for their song "Zeppo" with producer Ramon Boutviseth. This, along with the assistance of Matt Heafy, got the band signed. Also in 2007, the band were opening acts for Zakk Wylde's band Black Label Society as well as Symphony X.
The band released its debut album Road to Bloodshed on April 24, 2007. They are currently supporting label mates Trivium on their European tour along with Gojira and Annihilator. They will also soon be touring with Megadeth for their tour.

Cheers HB. Never heard of them before, just checked out their myspace and heard a few tracks, pretty fukcing cool:thumbsu:

Keep them coming along...

One of my all time favourite thrash metal acts is 'The Haunted' out of Sweden. "One kill wonder" is as brutal as it gets.

Hows about some classic thrash albums from 1990?

Ah Death Angel - Act 3 ..... that's a great cd. which reminds me of that upcoming tour next year in February/March - Death Angel, Testament, Exodus & Mortal Sin ..... dates to be confirmed. If you want to see or hear some good old speed metal/thrash metal then go to that gig. :thumbsu:

Listening to Death Angel is like a riff-a-rama they have more riffs in one of their songs then an entire black sabbath album.

here's a bit more on death angel ....

http://www.deathangel.com/bio.cfm

& some info on exodus

http://www.exodusattack.com/

& testament

http://www.testamentlegions.com/index2.htm

& Australia's own Mortal Sin

http://www.mortalsin.com.au/home.htm

anyway i can recommend the following if you would like to hear some classic albums ...

Exodus - Bonded by blood, Impact Is Imminent
Mortal Sin - Mayhemic Destruction, Face Of Despair - you can't buy these on cd though yet.....
Testament - Low, Souls of Black, Practice What You Preach
Death Angel - Act III,
Overkill - Horrorscope (love the track - thanx for nothing), the years of decay
Kreator - Coma of Souls, Extreme Aggression, Enemy of god
Annihilator - Alice in Hell, Never Neverland
Suicidal Tendencies - Lights Camera Revolution, How will i laugh, Join the army
Voivod - Killing Technology
Anthrax - Fistful of metal, Spreading the disease, State of Eupohria
Destruction - Infernal overkill, Release from anger
Sodom - Persecution Mania,
Sepultura - Arise, Beneath the remains

Twisted into Form would have to be the most underated thrash album ever. Forbidden :thumbsu:
Agreed! Listened to it on the weekend for the first time in years and it still kicks arse... absolute quality! :thumbsu:

Forbidden - Twisted Into Form (9/10) - USA - 1990

Genre: Thrash Metal
Label: Combat Records
Playing time: 41:11

Tracklist:
1. Parting Of The Ways
2. Infinite
3. Out Of Body (Out Of Mind)
4. Step By Step
5. Twisted Into Form
6. R.I.P.
7. Spiral Depression
8. Tossed Away
9. One Foot In Hell

The story of FORBIDDEN is a sad one. They are truly one of the unsung heroes of the Thrash Metal-genre, with some of the most accomplished musicianship from the era when Bay Area-Thrash was at its peak. This was, by some, considered to be their finest moment, while others will say that their first album, the shred-fest "Forbidden Evil", was their hands-down best. I must disagree with the latter, I've heard the MUSIC on "Forbidden Evil" and it just doesn't measure up to "Twisted Into Form" compositionally. While they've indeed toned down the solos here, the riffs and songwriting are much more mature.

Opening acoustic instrumental "Parting Of The Ways" kicks things off with beautifully depressing minor-chords, which segues into the "Infinite"-opus. Heed my words, people, these riffs are of the highest order! The twin guitar-team of Craig Locicero and Tim Calvert (who would later join NEVERMORE) play effortless, harmonized riffs as though they were born with their axes! Also of note is the drumming of Paul Bostaph, far different from his speed-o-matic drumming in SLAYER. Here he employs lots of clever cymbal-tricks and bass-drum-rhythms, while he also lays down the four-on-the-floor on "Infinite" with no problems at all. And his verse-groove on the title-track has a slightly jazz/fusion-tinge, which is always refreshing to hear in Thrash Metal. Russ Anderson's shrill vocals might be a turn-off to some, but they slowly grew on me and now I think they're quite good. You'll just have to hear this and decide for yourself.

I'm willing to bet that most anyone into Metal, no matter which sub-genre, can appreciate this album in some way. And don't think that there aren't shed-solos aplenty here, but in contrast to "Forbidden Evil", these solos are much more thought-out and involving, not to mention memorable!

I understand that this album has just been re-issued. So all you sceptical Metalheads afraid to try out some classic Thrash, take a chance with this one. You just might enter into your own personal "retro-phase" as well...

more europeans please

kreator, coroner, destruction = the big three

current fave = dew scented from germany (yes, it's a gay name, but they have some vicious stuff) :thumbsu:

I've got all the albums pictured above. Great stuff, every last one.

Very distinctive differences between the US & Euro bands generally, but enough similarities to bind them as a genre, and enough quality stuff to stack up over the years. Where are the Euro-thrash album covers? :p

Mr Magoo : I have Mortal Sin's "Face of Despair" on CD. Either it's been reissued, or I have an old one that's out of print. Maybe the latter?

How about SODOM old chap? Onkel Tom is everyone's favourite Onkel!!! I don't think you can have Destruction & Coroner (great bands both), without Sodom. Coroner is the underrated one of the BIG 4 ;) esp. RIP and mental Vortex.

Never did I think I would see the day that I would plug a thrash band with a female vocalist because they generally suck ass.

But here is the exception

WALLS OF JERICHO

These guys can seriously play and they are as fast and as heavy as fukc.

I guess when you try so hard to look like a bloke eventually you'll start sounding like one!!

Awesome band!!

Wow, didn't know that Walls of Jericho has a female on vocals, only heard one of their songs though on Full Metal Racket.

maybe a bit more hardcore (and trendy?), but it's hard to go past a blast from hatebreed - their song 'defeatist' makes me want to smash stuff. a lot.
http://www.myspace.com/hatebreed

the 1st album from the haunted also = mandatory thrash listening
http://www.myspace.com/thehaunted
(the songs on their myspace page are from later albums, the pick of the bunch would be 'the medication' & '99')

and for my current non-stop listening treat, if you liked (early) fear factory, get ready for divine heresy - dino cazares' new band.
jesus this album is HUGE - I've been listening to an advance copy for over a month non-stop.
like fear factory on serious crack - tim yeung (drums) has played in quite a few death metal bands (hate eternal, vital remains etc etc) and is seriously scary.
http://www.myspace.com/DivineHeresyBand

clip of one of their songs (no vocals) being jammed - you have to watch this drummer in action, and dino playing 8 string guitar (wtfpwnage?!) - a big guitar for a big boy I guess
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSDOP6OqPnA

actually just found the clip for the first divine heresy single 'failed creation'

tim yeung throws in a few stick twirls in between blasting hehe :p
good to see joe payne (who toured oz with nile last year) now on bass too

Have the DH album. It's absolutely brutal, but melodic at the same time. And that's my absolute favourite kind of Metal. One of the albums of the year, in a year of absolute ball-tearers!!!!

Dark Angel's Darkness Descends is a personal favourite of mine.

Then of course bands like Megadeth, Slayer, Kreator etc. Even Sodom and Metal Church are good quality.

Thrash metal is an outstanding sub genre of metal, there is so much to choose from!

Dunno if you'd strictly call them Thrash, but Melbourne band Frankenbok have just released their long awaited 3rd full length album 'Murder of Songs'. It's pretty damn killer. Check it out, and support local stuff!!!!

http://www.myspace.com/frankenbok

Especially check out the track 'Failure to Learn'.....

SB, You're a fukcing gun:thumbsu:

Carnal forge are brutal....

Check out a melbourne band called Mindsnare. Their new offering is called "Disturb the hive"

Seriously brutal stuff, they have taken their hardcore roots and thrashed them right out. The drumming is seriously off the scale.

Saw Sodom in June - oh what a lovely night that was. :) Thrash metal bands are rather bland without searing guitar solos and Sodom deliver the riffs and the solos... top, top band that is still delivering decent albums (unlike Slayer, Metallica etc.).

Also a fan of older Suicidal Tendencies albums. Mike Clark was in a band named No Mercy before joining ST - a lot of what was recorded on How Will I Laugh and on Feel Like Shit, Deja Vu was inspired or taken directly from No Mercy.

Just got back into listening to Sepultura's Beneath the Remains... a zillion times better than Roots. The Haunted's first album is a far way better than anything they've released since. Integrity are considered to be a hardcore band but really did cross over a lot into metal... they released some very good material.

Local band Atomizer have released some decent albums, their first, The End of Forever has some awesome straight-out thrash songs on it... highly recommended. Sadly the band could never get the right guitarists and the drummer passed away last year, so you'll never see them live again. I saw Frankenbok quite a few times with their old singer, but lost interest in the band when he left... I wouldn't have considered their earlier stuff as thrash.

Perhaps not strictly thrash (at least they'll say it's punk), but The Exploited's Beat the Bastards album is an awesome album... actually thought it was Slayer first time I heard it. An amazing thing is the guy who played the guitars on most songs ducked out of the country without telling the band so isn't credited for his work on the album!
