I hate those flukey goals winning. Fevola will win this weeks nomination, which is sort of ridiculous. Lloyd winning GOTY a couple of years ago for his backheel was a joke. I'm sure there have been some better goals this year than the Goodes one though.

Dunno if I'd have it ahead of Goodes' but Fev's goal was pretty good and at least required some skill, unlike Lloyds effort. That was an absolute disgrace and I wanted to punch someone in the face when I heard Kevin Bartlett defending their decision on the radio... "Err, well... it was awarded because it's not something you see every day".

agree with malfan.... bit harsh to compare lloyd's goal with fev's

the extension of his leg to kick the goal was pretty darn impressive

fev's got GOTY imho

Giving GOTY to Lloyd on the basis of "its not something you see everyday sucked. There's a reason for that- its not SOCCER.A skill no doubt, to kick it out of the air or back heel it,but just as much a fluke to have it come off!
Shouldn't we be awarding goals that promote "our game"- the run & carry, bounce,& the drop punt?

as much as i love Goodes
Fevs in the air goal was fricken awesome

Drew Petrie kicked a much better soccer-style goal earlier in the season, a volley on an angle after watching the ball come over his head, and under more pressure.

Goodes' goal was terrific but some of the end-to-end team goals this season have been outstanding.

I remember watching it and thinking "I know that must have been hard... but damn he makes it look easy"

That said there've been plenty of great goals this year, and Fev's goal, while being a lot of arse still has class and I reacon's already won GOTY.

Whilst I don't particularly like him as a footballer, I thought Fev's goal from the boudary is GOTY to date. Under extreme pressure, shrugging off the tackler with strength. Taking nothing away from Goodes, but that was a classy goal from Fev.

Which was always going to happen, Fev took out the Round 15 GOTW.

Adam Goodes (Sydney)
kicked from beyond 50 metres at full pace
24%
Brendan Fevola (Carlton)
amazing volley goal over his head
63%
Brendan Fevola (Carlton)
brilliant snap along the ground from boundary
13%

I guess the fluke goals take the cake, rather then the goals that are anticipated

If you ask me, technically Lloyd's goal was 'dropping the ball'. A free kick to the opposing team should have followed. :D But you are right, it was a ridiculous decision for GOTY.

I remember a few gems from the boundry line that same year that should have gotten it. McPhee and i think Leon Davis?
