Goodes' future

Twice now he's jumped in the air, landed a bit awkwardly, and done his knees. Not even a bad collision, just an awkward landing.

His knees are shot. It's not something that's going to get better. I hope he can play on, but it might just keep happening.

You think all the rucking he did early in his career took a toll?

Yes, but AFL in general is hard on knees. Sports like Rugby league and Union are a lot of straight-line running. The knees get a workout, but not as much twisting. AFL is a 360 degree sport. There's a lot more jumping and turning, which leads to a lot of hard wear on the knees.

Being in the ruck is obviously going to exacerbate that.

I think if you look carefully at the last two incidents:

1. GF his knee hit hawks players hip bone - real impact trauma
2. Port Adel he stood on the football - again real trauma through the knee

Personally I think this thread is too negative. Have faith in the great man. We will be awesome in 2014, even more so with Adam Goodes running around the forward line. He will be back.

Now lets move on to positive discussion around PF.

GTS I have to agree. Spates of injuries happen to rookies too. Goodes pushing himself so hard to get back in time for finals would not have helped. Needs a nice break, an easing into pre-season and a couple of aspirins.

I also agree with lock33 that this thread's premature.

Goat, you're being immature. If you get out of bed or stamp your feet one more time I'll get really angry and you won't be allowed to watch the game on Saturday.

You're not the boss of me!!!!!!!

As long as he doesnt go and join Roos at the demons after he is done. All these rumours of our legends being poached by roos is really starting to grate me.

Why? He'll only be there two years, let them bumble about and make their mistakes at the Dees, then come to us when they've mastered the art of coaching in two years when Roos comes home.

Not even in 2 or 3 years?

nope.

I honestly think if things do go well roos could be setting himself up at the demons for at least a decade. First as senior coach then he will have a role as football director or something similar.

He seems to be the type of guy that stays loyal to one organisation for a long while. He has been a servant at two clubs in which he was there over a decade.

Hm, that would be kinda contrary to everything he has said...

Roos will never come back. Goodsy bleeds red and white, and will probably go on as an ambassador for the Afl with indiginious players. And on another note. Brett Kirk in my opinion is honing his coaching skills at
Freo, with the possibility of coming home.

I doubt we'd be signing him up to another year at the start of next season like we did this year.

Put him on ice until about rd 15 next year, get half a season into him to get him going for finals. ;)

Or say we lose a Johnson, Richards, Grundy to an injury early next year, chuck Reid at CHB and play Tippet, Goodes, +Ruck in the forward line. Keeps Goodes relatively out of harms way and gives Reid some confidence with the pill.

Reid will play CHB from round 1 next year and Tippett 30% ruckman. That means Goodes will be critical to forward structure in 2014. To compensate the interchange cap, big guys will rotate forward and stay on ground allowing mids to soak up additional rotations. This is why Mumford likely to be traded. This plan has been obvious since the decision to recruit Tippett and Pykes development. Club is ahead of the curve as usual. LRT/White/Naismith will fill any rucking gaps although I hope we add another lower cost ruckman to the list just in case. Spend any excess cash on Yarren or H. Shaw........or if possible Dusty Martin.

Why are we so certain Reid will play CHB? Is that speculation or have I missed something from Horse?

Didnt know citation was a critical component of posts here but there is enough circumstantial evidence to support the thesis. It also assumes we keep White. If he requests a trade then my statistical models may need to be re calibrated.

It would be a sad day, but there's nothing more he could achieve or get out of his career that he hasn't already... Dominated every position on the field, won 2 premierships, captaining 1. Won 2 Brownlows, multiple AA's, broke all sorts of club records and won multiple games off his own boot. He couldn't possibly have any regrets.
Not going out on his own terms?

Saying "I think we'll have Reid at CHB" is very different to saying "Reid WILL play at CHB"...

Apologies. I will ensure I brush on my grammar, citations and statistical confidence modeling. I will also run it by my legal counsel and PR department to ensure no one is mislead. I look forward to your continued oversight of my compliance.

Geeze no need to get so defensive, I was genuinely curious as to whether I'd missed some comment from Longmire.

just having a bit of fun......lighten up I know you werent having a go at me. You are right I've got nothing to back it up :)

The last useful thing Reid did was take a speccy on the last line of defence - ergo his role is now permanent centre half back.
