Goodes' future

Just a newbie. Possibly I need to be a bit more descriptive in my posts to ensure the humour is translated as intended. Sorry.

All good, you seemed to take a bit of offence at what I meant as a genuinely curious inquiry.

As long as he doesnt go and join Roos at the demons after he is done. All these rumours of our legends being poached by roos is really starting to grate me.

To be honest I would prefer it if people went and got experience outside of our system. What we have works but doesn't mean other ideas or tweeks are not valid. Seeing what doesn't work is just as important as well.

Can't be well rounded if all you get is confirmation bias from your own people.

If they are any good we will poach them back anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised if Goodes returned against Freo. The way Horse ruled him out for the rest of the season was strange. Horse said he was ruled out for the rest of the year, yet hadn't reinjured himself, which is a strange call to make. I'd expect Horse to have said Goodes hadn't reinjured himself but is "unlikely" to feature for the rest of the year. But to immediately rule him out for the year was just a bit odd, particularly since he hadn't re-injured himself.

As for Goodes retiring, it definitely won't happen at the end of 2013, and probably won't happen after 2014 either. Sometimes players have a bad run with injuries over a certain period but once they recover from them they're good to go (albeit not at 100%). It's just that when players hit 30+ they're not just overcoming injuries but they're also in a race against time (added to the fact that at that age you recover slower as well). It's not a case of, oh, you're over 30, you've copped an injury, you will never recover from that. It's just that at that age, you lose speed, athleticism etc and if you have no other strings to your bow the end comes quickly. Goodes luckily has a lot of facets to his game, so once he overcomes his knee issues I see him contributing again. This definitely won't be the last we see of him.

There's every chance that he'll play as a forward pocket with stints in the middle when it's absolutely needed, sort of like the role Alan Didak played, but obviously much better.

Although I love goodes i hate to say it but i think next season will be his last. Hate to see him go but I think its time for the next batch of guys to show their wares and stop relying on a champion and be champions themselves!

If next season is his last then so be it, but he seems confident next year he will be right to go.

All good things must end, be nice for him to go out in a full season, actually walk off the ground, with a premiership medal

Just heard that Goodes' knee might be gone and they may be preparing an announcement soon. Not related to Buddy, though it's possible (this is pure speculation) that they had prepared the offer and had let Buddy's management know but were waiting on the results of Goodes' scan before they formally greenlit it.

No idea how good the source is though, but the person that told me was pretty matter of fact about it. I dunno, I'm not generally a rumour monger but thought I'd share.

I hope you are wrong as I love watching Goodes play and play at his best

Never been happier to be wrong. I guess that is in the realm of "big news", and probably what my "source" was referring to, but seems like they just knew something was going to be announced and guessed at what is was.

I would have been disappointed if he called it quits

Glad to hear he doesn't have to go under the knife. Good news :thumbsu:

Failing some kind of degenerative condition of Goodes' knees he only needs a half decent pre-season to be back to his best form. Well managed and rested when needed I can't see why he can't play 2015 or even 2016. It's not old for a player of his calibre and, as much as we may want the next generation to step up into his boots, his boots are not easily filled. Dual Brownlow medallists are a rare breed and we may not see his like again at the Swans for another 20 years.

Goodes would have been moved on at any other club (eg Chappy at Geelong).

Zero faith in his fitness.
Chapman has had concerns with his hamstrings for years and is not in the same class as Goodes.

I don't have a lot of faith in his knees holding up either but I'm more than happy to take the risk on a club champion and game winner like Goodes.

Go home
Run to the bathroom
Grab a bar of soap
Put bar of soap in mouth
And give your mouth a massive scrap

Then sit in the corner

They said the same thing after the GF last year where he did his PCL.

I'm not sold on him playing in 2014 just yet. He has missed a lot of footy & is struggling to get right.

I won't believe the Swans on this until I see him running around out their in a game.

Depends on how his body holds up next season. If he plays 20+ including finals and his form stands up well, i don't see why he couldn't go on in 2015. Although there is the danger of going on 1 season too long, but i tend to agree that next year is his last. I think he would rather go out playing good footy, than having to labour through another injury riddled season like 2013.

Not much faith in the great man on here. I trust him to know when he's finished.

this and if we are going to carry buddy for 3 years in his late 30s then Goodsey can stay on the list as long as he wants
