Im making a website for my parents accomodation apartments, and was wondering how i go about getting it listed to come up on Google searches.

I am a complete amateur, and have no idea where to start

Also, are there costs involved?

Any help would be great :)

Look at this site here to add your webpage to google.

Look at this site here for imformation on how google add's pages and how to format your website so you get more hits on google .

Google will also add websites automatically.

spend some money on Adwords.

by buying it, google will automatically add your site to the engine AND you will get into that area on the side of the search and higher up the results.

Okay first off, I recommend hiring a professional to do the job for you....

Assuming you go ahead with it, register for

  • google webmaster tools - Free tool that shows you if you're doing anything wrong from a search engine perspective and allows you to control settings for google
  • google analytics - free analytics program that allows you to track and manage your web traffic.
  • Google local business centre - Get your business in google maps which also for some locations in this case accommodation displays a list of maps in the 1st page of google eg "accommodation Melbourne"
SEO Moz is a great website that has free and paid services. With a great beginners article

Just a note, accommodation is basically the most competitive industry for SEO, so unless you're operating out of a small niche country town you will find it very difficult to rank well ie on the first page.

Adwords is definitely a very viable option if managed correctly. If not you can waste a lot of money...so make sure you be careful with that.

Good luck.

Thanks mate, i was thinking of getting a professional to do it. However, i think i've got it looking to a reasonable standard the address is www.porthughesholidayhouse.com

Lucky for me it just so happens to be a small niche country town. I've had adwords advertisement up for less than 24 hours and already have a booking out of it!

However, the advertisement only comes up on google by searching for 'port hughes' but it doesnt come up for 'port hughes accommodation' which is strange, as i obviously have all of that as key words

I was actually just about to ask, how businesses get there google map addresses up in searches, and you've answered that for me so thanks again!

Can someone please explain the bidding system for costs per click a bit more clearly?

How is this determined exactly.

When i started 2 days ago, my cpc were around 7c, now theyre blowing out to 38c

Whats the deal with that? I dont really understand the bidding system

you should really RTFM in this case. It is a little complex for simple answers in this sort of forum.

pertinent points

you can set a maximum of costs / click if you want.

set at auto, the system will bid for you to put your ad up within the constraints of your budget.

but seriously type adwords help into google and read up on positioning ads, bids, first page bid estimates.

From experience I would say that your quality score is effecting it. Quality score is google's way of making sure your website isn't shit and spammy.

If you have a bad quality score you have to pay more for ads and you generally appear lower in the listings. Read up on it and make the changes they recommend and if still no luck I think you can have someone from google manually review the site and manually grade your quality score.

cheers.

One of the easiest ways to get listed in Google's search results is by getting linked to by a site that is already listed. When the Googlebot next crawls that site it will follow your link and index your site in the process.
