After reading that I am wondering why the headline read " Seymour Player Attacked" as I read into it and he had a plastic bottle thrown in his direction " and narrowly missed the back of his head" I was waiting to read at what point the violence escalated to being physical but didn't happen. I suppose the writer will suggest they were verbally attacked which happens to 18 players on each side most footy games by opposition and supporters.

Maybe a Headline could have read " Empty Bottle Thrown at a Player - Missed" or
"More excitement off the ground than on it .......again"

There has to be something to look at if an investigation has been called. If its given the all clear after its been looked at everyone moves on.

Thanks for the link. I was at the game and saw Will go down. I didn't see what happened but it was in play. Obviously a guy gets his jaw broken it is head high contact. I left shortly after and didn't see the aftermath. But I can imagine the disappointment. I know Will and I'm a Benalla member. Footy is a tough game and things happen. I'm a bit disappointed with Benalla reaction after the game and in the media but I could understand it. Will is a quiet bloke who goes about his football in the right way. I wish people would keep quiet, let the officials handle things and let the players do their thing. Benalla has had a traumatic couple of years, with a number of suicides and deaths of players and parents. The group has been through a lot and they are very tight because of it. Emotions are high because of the anticipation of ending the drought. Anyhow, Looking forward to the final series. Still nothing is certain and Benalla has to earn like every other team. No one will make it easy for them.
Yes, if a player suffers a broken jaw from a collision, there has been head high contact. But like Jack Viney's incident earlier this year where it involved an accidental head clash, head high contact is not always illegal. I didn't see this incident and can't comment on the legality of it, but if a player suffers a head injury it is not always illegal. A head injury can even occur when a players hits his head on the ground.

Big Sirret to have a big finals campaign for Rochy and to spark a rush of clubs scouring minor leagues for end of year gun permit players
Does that mean we can look forward to young up and coming players being offered "incentives" to come across as the season draws to a close? Still, the opposing club has the right of veto and should use it! There is no excuse for a side who is not struggling for players to use permits at this end of the season. There is a notion called "abuse of process" or "in the spirit of the game". As stated previously, good luck to any side who has done its homework (and found a loophole). Such loopholes are only ever found by people trying to circumvent a rule that they would otherwise have asked others to abide by. If this were not the case they would have rallied to have it changed.

Who misses out from the Rochy side for Sirret to come in? There would be someone who has been the victim, and with the Rochy Reserves finishing 8th following the completion of the home and away season then this victim has to watch as an outsider takes his place.

Think a similar thing happened at Tongala many years ago where a coach bought in outsiders at the end of the season and then some of the club stalwarts walked away from the club the following year as a protest to the way their mates were treated. I stand to be corrected but Scott Hansen may have been one of them.

On the other hot topic of Benalla, if their injury list at this time of the year is one player then they do not have much to whinge about. Football is football and players get injuries. Get over it.

I could hear the harp strings calling on the Sirret thing Stinger, then it just went 'twang' on Martinello!

You display more sympathy for a Rochy Seconds player than a champ of the league who has unfortunately suffered a broken jaw. What about the poor Tatura blokes who have played all year and miss out this week for Wall, McGough et al.Or the Ky seconds playets who miss out for returning TAC cup players?

So who needs to get over it?

Very good point. No one bats an eyelid when someone misses out when a TAC or VFL player comes back for the finals. Rochy does it and suddenly it becomes an issue of a local missing out. I could also add that in 1992, Matthew Febey qualified to play finals with Rochy. He was, of course, drafted to Melbourne halfway through the year. When Melbourne's season was over, he was allowed to play with Rochy, but the club decided not to play him.

Think that was the year Roland Crosby referenced playing Rochester as 'playing Melbourne reserves ...' Dave Williams, Jamie Duursma, Dean Duursma and Matt Febey. Pity Sparks didn't play in 92. Great GF in the wet. Tatura with Dax, Antrobus, Robinson and a raft of gun localls. I recall Nutta. O´Neil being sent off for retaliating after someone nearly drowned him (literally) in a lake that developed in the pocket.

Wall and McGough have been playing when available throughout the year though. They are not just swanning on in at the latter end of the season without having contributed throughout the year.

Hansen was playing for Rochy at the time. He was the one sent off during the Rochy-Tonny final at Echuca, sparking the very controversial player count. As the Olympics were being held in Sydney, the AFL and VFL seasons finished early and Tonny recruited Northern Bullants’ trio Shannon Gibson, Bernie Haberman and Craig Caracella. Rochy came back from three or four goals down to win and ironically, Hansen was cleared at the tribunal.

Rochy outsmarted every other club. It's in the rules, so fair play.

Always a hard luck story about a player missing out at this time of the year and in the instance of Rochy, the player that misses out wouldn't have been playing very well. In other words players pick themselves, not coaches etc. If you are playing well you don't put yourself in that position!

not a rule too many new about, but I think its more fair play than Wheeler at Seymour a couple of years ago when he played 10seconds in 2 Reserves games to qualify!

Did Wheeler come from Seymour originally or somewhere else?

In this case I think 6' 15" picked himself.

It might be within the rules but I still think it is ridiculous that he can play an entire season for one club but then be available for another in the same year. Nothing against the kid or the club really but just should not be allowed to happen

Might be within the rules, but not ethical IMO. These type of decisions/actions can severely affect the morale of a team/club.

Dont worry about other clubs. I'll think you'l find all players and coaches are quite happy with this outcome.

If its such a bad decision why is Tat hanging onto VFL players who have played 2 & 3 more games than the player in question for the year? Will this push other local players out of their team and cause an ethical dilemma as to whether to play them? I dont think so. Its fair to assume win/lose or draw ( cant draw tomorrow) no player or supporter at Rochester will be fretting the moral and ethical outcome.

as stated by others its within the rules and seems a few clubs are not happy they have been outwitted.

I could not respond anymore elequently than 'GG' has beyond saying I imagine the Rochy folk are very excited tonight. They needed a big man for a premiership push. Stuffed up with Ryan Smith and clearance rules from Northern Territory league so needed a ruckman. Found one at Colbo. Rochy have had a strong relationship with Colbo, Stanhope and Locky/Bamawm over the journey. The Rochy folk would consider Lochie Sirret a local.

Rochy getting flogged at half-time. It was fun while it lasted.

Tatura outworked and outclassed Rochy today. Full credit to them.

The four remaining clubs should offer some cracking games.

What does next year offer for Rochy? The three years under White resulted in four finals and four comprehensive losses. Not at all saying that is the coach's fault but the Rochy teams of the previous two seasons in particular should have definately gone further.

All academic now.

After watching Sirret's game today, it would appear that the only club to have been outwitted is Rochy.
