Mmmmmm sounds familar!
Whats going on with this once great league. Going on what I read in the Shepp news Echuca would be odds on to leave I’d say. Also heard Euroa, Benalla are likely to forfeit games in under 18’s and reserves. Add Mooroopna to that mix if true and the league is completely gone. Echuca leaving would be diabolical for the GV. Was talking to someone from Echuca connected to the club pretty strongly (ex coach) and he believes it’s a done deal pending a couple things to work out with Bendigo. Time will tell I guess. What are the numbers like at other clubs not mentioned ???

Where have all the players gone in Mooroopna, district clubs? or just not playing. 8k population should be enough to sustain a team, even when Shepparton is just there with their 3 clubs, plus 2 MFL clubs.

With the growth of African Sudanese players in the AFL, and from what I know Shepparton area has an increase of African Sudanese demographic, is this demographic shown within GV footy or what clubs may be doing to attract.
Or are they just playing soccer

The afl continue to have their heads in tje sand, how many major league clubs do we need to lose?

I think Andrew Dillon is probably happy as it means more kayo viewers and people going to afl games instead

The reality within the Shepparton region there has been a massive push to have all kids play in the Shepparton district comp or whatever it is now called .
As a result the Shepp based GVL clubs end up with 2-3 teams within a specific grade at the expense of nearby clubs including those within the GVL .
Kids at those clubs told or otherwise form an opinion that the way forward in their football career is via the program they are in and form opinion that any other ( club) is inferior . The players form the opinion this is their ticket to become an AFL player and often the coaching practices ( line coaches , zones , recovery session , blah , blah ) are akin to that of kids being prepared to play AFL . All fits the mould these kids are gunna play AFL player.
Once they reached 16 reality hits for 50+% of them as the 2-3 sides becomes 1 as they move up in age group .
They then have a decision to make , which is often influenced on whether they’ve played schoolboys , Bushrangers etc .
This is where it become clouded and the opt out of that system can happen from 15-16 to 21-22 . Community clubs say players join them because they just want to enjoy their footy without the commitment at premier league level . Premier league clubs say community league clubs poach players with massive $$ offers . You be stupid to not accept the truth sits somewhere in between .
Additional to this you have those kids move to community clubs staining the premier league / club to kids who have played all their junior footy at community level including those who are good enough to go into premier league at age 21-22 .
Don’t forget a junior review of the whole region provided outcomes that for what ever reason have not occured within GVL .
What is being realised now is a direct result of failing to implement the recommendations of that review .
Some pretty honest and astute people have allegedly presented to the AFL that 60% of kids who play TAC / Coates or whatever is called immediately fall out of the game. They were allegedly asked to keep that information secret.
Thats the elite level that have been given all their opportunities and would most likely walk straight into any senior side .
It’s only natural the fall out for those that haven’t been provided that opportunity or are as capable , is going to be higher .

Low numbers for a training camp. However benefit of the doubt with cricket ramping up to finals and this time of year is always hard with a lot of kids going down to start university and possibly move to the city. Most teams would have 4-5 kids in that position who put footy on the back burner for a few weeks to get their lives sorted with uni. also most teams would have a few VFL boys who they are yet to see. 14 is very low but let's hope it isn't as bad as it seems!

The teams who have 40plus on the track are laughing over the x-mas period.

4 years of Lamont has done more bad then good for mooroopna i think, hasn’t won a final, lost multiple locals players, and if they finish bottom this season that’ll be 2 years in a row in the bottom few.
Don’t get me wrong they were the only side to beat Echuca in the normal season back when Echuca were flying but besides that I think the reappointment of Lamont hasn’t worked as well as expected.

what’s the go with Mansfield been very quiet, have heard they’ve lost Hutchins, grey and boshevski, if so massive losses.

Going of Facebook they’ve recruited smedley and PLAYERCARD]will kelly[/PLAYERCARD].
Bloody good effort for them to make the prelim last year you’d think they’d be up there abouts again?

The issue's outlined by roar are no different to what you hear in Echuca / Moama region. District clubs crying out for numbers, yet Echuca have 42+ kids trying to get an u18 spot.

You would hope they have honest conversations with families and players and filter kid's back to the clubs they have come from to get a game in.

If not, worrying about forfeits / not fielding teams whilst you have a spare team missing out each week doesn't seem healthy to me.

Echuca are openly trying to recruit players from Moama for their thirds so are only adding to that problem

I was under the impression that the footy factory with the Reid academy didn’t need to poach kids from neighbouring clubs like moama, Tongala , LVGB.
Echuca were close to maxing out their points a few times this year. It’s the reason they are sooking about the points to the league and trying to intimidate them. They shouldn’t have to play over 30pts with the luxurious position they are in.

Of those kids from surrounding clubs how many are playing seniors though. Points wouldn't come into it if they came for a year of thirds and play reserves the year after.
Surely the club isn't doing the recruiting Shinjuku rather the kids are talking in the school yard and then the parent's are saying yes whatever makes you happy little Johhny.

There would definetly be an element of the kids initiating it but I can guarantee their is active recruiting on the part of the club. In the cold light of day this happens everywhere and certainly happens in the Bendigo league where Echuca are thinking of going.

lads anyone know when the shepp news send out that footy book that covers all the leagues around this area? usually around this time of year is'nt it?

Have said it before & it’s becoming more evident.

All clubs in the GV have increased their professionalism over the past 10-15 years. Even those that have recently done it tough, results wise

The league itself, is administered poorly. Embarrassingly so, compared to other leagues.

Get out and meet with clubs. Be proactive. Demonstrate some transparency about future plans.

Don’t sell us another half baked, cringeworthy app …
