Just saw on FootyGoss Jaymie Graham has been elevated to senior list for Ashley Hansen who has a long term injury.

Haven't seen much of Graham, what you guys think of him?

Got beaten by Doogs in the intraclubs when he was played in defence. Liked him against the Pies though- big, a bit lanky, and looked a bit lost in an AFL game, but seems to be pretty athletic and moves well for his size. Anyone seen much of him at WAFL level?

From what Woosha was saying, he's probably there as a sort of worst-case scenario player, as a tall defender just in case the injury situation gets even direr.

Graham played CHB for South Fremantle last year and was voted Best Backman by the club. Playing him at FB against Doogs was probably the same as playing Jakovich at FB on Neitz, it was not a good match up. I think he is probably a little out of his depth at the moment but giving the kid a run against the likes of Carey would give him an idea of where he has to be to make the big time. I hope he enjoys the promotion.

seems a bit weird...why promote him if he only an emergency player?? he must be rated much higher than my limited perceptions of him. did he even play against demons (i cant remember him)? also were does this leave aaron edwards...played outstanding in the intra-club then not even given a turn when we rested matera. its all a little confusing.

wat of hansen? i thought he was on par with glass...meaning he would nearly be ready for the opening round. gasper would have been a smarter choice IMO.

He is only elevated until Hansen is taken off of the long term injury list which as far as I know means Hansen is out for up to 10 weeks. Edwards isn't very tall and can't hold down a Key Position. He would probably get elevated if another mid sized player is injured.

Obviously Hansens injury is worse than was first thought. As far as I know if you place a player on the long term injury list he has to stay there for 10 weeks. Gaspar could play before round 10 especially since he is now training with the main group instead of running laps.

Bummer about Hansen. :(
Him and Glass had their operations within a few weeks of eachother, perhaps Hansen's was more serious, or just taking longer to heal.

Hopefully we'll see him play this year though. And great to hear Gaspar training with the main squad!

Great for Graham, he gets put on the rookie list then straight away to the senior list (temporarily). Bit of a blow for Clancy, but its the KPP players that are injured, and Clancy's just a bit too short for them! ;) (as is Edwards!)

Improved his body shape and footballing ability out of site this pre-season. Was pretty decent for us at Souths last season too.

Eagles elevate rookie Graham

The West Coast Eagles have elevated defender Jaymie Graham from the rookie list and on to the primary list. Ashley Hansen, who is recovering steadily from a shoulder operation, has been placed on the long-term injury list.

Graham is a key defender or ruckman who played at centre half-back for South Fremantle in the WAFL. He was impressive for West Coast during the big win over Collingwood at Subiaco in the first round of the Wizard Home Loans Cup.

Hansen, who is yet to play a senior match for West Coast, recently underwent shoulder surgery and is expected to return to action sometime early in the new season.

Hansen, 21, a ruckman and key forward, is in his third season with the Eagles.

It says "sometime early in the new season" hopefully he'll get a game in the late half of the season.

Just occurred to me its Hansen's 21st bday today... bad bday prezzie
:(

Suprising move but would be good for Graham so well done to him.

Like Beeck at the end of last year I would guess, a bit of a back up plan should everything go wrong.

Shame about Hansen, you'd think Big Red would be struggling to hold his place on the list if he goes a third straight season without a senior game (has he even played pre-season footy?, I can't remember). Seems a likely type, hope he gets his chance this year.

25. Long Term Injury List

25.4 Where a Player’s name has been added to an AFL Club’s Long Term Injury List, that Player is ineligible to play for the AFL Club for a period of at least 8 weeks (from the date the Player’s name has been added to the list).

I would give young Graham a crack at Carey. Nothing to lose by having him play CHB.

They must think highly of Graham, I wonder if he will get a run in the real stuff.
As for Hansen, he must be on thin ice now. I recall there was some problem between him and the club at the end of last season over the length of contract offered to him....12 months only I seem to remember. That implied this was an important season for him......to now be out of action for 10weeks is not going to give him much oportunity to show the club he is worth retaining after this year.
I think he got one or two preseason games last year....is that right?

From memory, one I think, v Hawthorn at Subiaco? I remembered watching him that game and being less than impressed- took one good contested mark, but aside from that constantly led under the ball when it was coming into the forward line?

I remember that game, we were bloody awful. Brent Staker played well though if I remember right.

Also, Pete Matera's last ever appearance in the blue and gold. :(

Uhuh.. Staker was very good off the hff- In fact it was about then that I started to think we were onto a very good thing with him.

I can't remember seeing Roo, but actually I think you're right- that would have been the last time he pulled on the blue and gold.

never seen him play, but a good break early in his career for young Graham.

Injury to Hansen though will almost definetaly see him leaving the club without even getting a run....... would be pretty depressing if he got picked up somewhere else and became a very good player for them.

Hansen is another in the Gaspar mould, outstanding potential but suffers from injuries. If a couple of our Keys such as Johnson and Lynch stand up well this year then I think we have every reason to keep Hansen on, that is if he doesn't suprise us all in the latter half of the year. We also have young McConnell who had a good game on the weekend for the Royals in the midfield. I think Hansen showed enough last year and will consolidate once his shoulder has healed to give us a better option at CHF. Whilst I think Johnson is doing well at CHF I think that Hansen is more mobile, better at taking contested marks and a better kick than Johnson.

i got the impression at the end of last year it was Hansen who wanted to head back to Victoria but the club wanted to keep him on (hence we offered him a one year deal)........

going on that i'd say it would be he who wants out at the end of this season if struggles with injuries once again.....

could be wrong though..

I think it was more that Hansen wanted to be offered a longer contract but we told him 1 year or not at all. With others that were probably better than him in the mix for the pre-season draft etc I think he chose wisely.
