And here I was thinking Jod or Chris_Judd were the most biased WC supporters going around :)

Id take Cox over Sandilands.

Hadrill over Glass

Sampi over Medhurst

Longmuir and Haynes is a tie

Headland and Embly is a tie - I would have said Headland last year, now im not so sure.

Haselby and Kerr is a tie

Pavlich over Judd only because Pavlich is tall. Judd is every inch as good but plays a different role.

My independent belief is that Freo's is better by a comfortable length.

I went to the Freo vs Dogs game last week, and gee they turned it on. Graham Polak is going to be a sensational player; it's a shame all the focus is locked here onto Pavlich and Headland.

Sandilands.

Hadrill

Sampi over Medhurst

Medhurst comfortably.

Longmuir and Haynes is a tie

Longmuir by the length of the Flemington straight.

Headland and Embly is a tie - I would have said Headland last year, now im not so sure.

Headland. This is getting ridiculous.

Haselby and Kerr is a tie

Close, but for consistency, work ethic and never-fail superb performances, Hasleby takes the cake.

Pavlich over Judd only because Pavlich is tall. Judd is every inch as good but plays a different role.

Both are very good - Pavlich is a top player, and Judd will only get better. But Matty still rules.

It's good to get a neutral perspective on things. Cheers evertonfc.

And yep, hopefully Polak will be a very good player, he has an amazing mark for someone his age. McPharlin is another one I can't wait til he gets over his injuries.

Like I said, Freo have a lot of name players. There's no doubting Pavlich and Hasleby are class players, but a lot of the others are rated by non-WA footy fans only because of where they were taken in the draft. My comparisons:

Matthew Pavlich - Chris Judd......Pavlich, as good as Judd can be we're judging this on current ability. Pav's AA speaks for itself

Paul Hasleby - Daniel Kerr......Fairly even. I don't think people realise what a vital role Kerr plays at the eagles.

Luke McPharlin - Mcdougall......draw, both have HUGE potential, but haven't had the chance to show it due to injuries

Des Headland- Andrew Embley...... Embley, especially considering what Freo gave up for Headland

Justin Longmuir - David Haynes.....apart from being a high draft pick J'Lo has done sh*t all to deserve all this docker praise. How's bout we compare J'Lo to Hunter? Hunter wins hands down.

Paul Medhurst - Ashley Sampi.....Medhurst last year, Sampi this year.

Robert Haddrill - Glass.....Haddrill

Aaron Sandilands - Cox.....Cox, performed well when Gardiner was out last year, and has been a good backup ruckman this year.

Conclusion - Youngsters are very even, more so than a lot of people on here seem to be suggesting. Wouldn't be surprised to see both teams peaking at the same time (and a grand final face-off between the two sides in 2005...unless Connelly is still talking about his 5yr plan ;))

ok. my go.

Matthew Pavlich - Chris Judd i actually don't think that you can really compare them. they don't have to much in common other than they are both high draft picks. i would say both supporters are very happy with their respective players. Tie

Paul Hasleby - Daniel Kerr i'd go the purple headed warrior on this one. he's played i bit longer than kerr. hase collects more possessions but kerr is streets touger. as D4Es said Kerr plays an important role in our midfield. Haselby

Luke McPharlin - Mcdougall both really need to get on the field and play some football. i would imagine both groups of supporters are sick of these guys getting injuried. mcP has played more games (and some bloody good ones) so I would say he would win. McPharlin.

Des Headland- Andrew Embley headland has had the goods but has slipped a few places this year while Embley is now a required player at the eagles  . Their places could be exchanged by the end of the season. Headland.

Justin Longmuir - David Haynes to potentially good players that aren't setting the world on fire. JLo has done some good stuff in the past. Longmuir.

Paul Medhurst - Ashley Sampi i'll back D4Es on this one .....Medhurst last year, Sampi this year.

Robert Haddrill - Glass glass has been over taken by Carroll. nuff said. Haddrill

Aaron Sandilands - Cox Sandilands hasn't done much more than play second fiddle to Simmonds. Cox proved last year that he could play as our number 1 ruckman when needed. Cox.

Sampi's not a bad little scamp of a player, but are his stats and play as good as you make it out to be?. I say this because Medhurst hasn't put a foot wrong this year and has consolidated his position as a hard to match up player, who gets his regular quota of goals.

Otherwise the comments are reasonable with the following comments :-

Cox is good, and is better than Sandilands at the moment because it's Sandilands first season.

Headland is starting to earn his pay, although Embers like a good Black Duck has "grown up".

Overall both sides have some talent.

Everyone likes to talk about how young Freo's list is but with the departure of Peter Matera, our list is now the youngest.

According to the Season Preview Booklet (came with the first Record of the year) the average age of our list was 22.5 yrs at 1 Jan '03 while Freo's was 22.3 yrs (same as Essendon and Collingwood. Only Geelong's list (22.0 yrs) was younger. Now Matera was 33.75 yrs old at the start of the year. By him leaving, our average must drop by some 3/4 of a year surely (33 yrs/44 players - inc. rookies). This would now make us the youngest side in the league (~21.8 yrs).

Not bad for the 2nd placed side in the comp.

Take heart Eagles fans. Talk about potential!!!:D

if our av was 22.5 with 45 players and PM(33.75) is now of the list:

our new av is : 22.5 - (33.75 - 22.5)/44 = 22.24.

Pretty sure thats right ??

Unfortunately, your maths is way off. And rookies aren't included. Plus you have to take 1 off.

Ie (Total Ages - Materas Age) / 38 - 1

ie (22.5 * 38) - 33) / (37)

And even if your list is young, our core players are much younger.

B: Hayden McPharlin Haddrill
HB: Grover Polak Woods
C: Headland Pavlich Haines
HF: Browne J. Longmuir Siegert
F: Medhurst Croad Cunningham

R: Sandilands Hasleby Schammer

Everyone on that list was 22 years of age at the start of this year, or younger. That shows how young our side is because it almost looks like our normal side.

Yep. But rookie list aint counted when they worked out average ages.

that's a bit selective Kenny.

you've missed
bell
cook
mcManus
parker
simmonds
waterhouse
carr
farmer
and koops

that's 9 players who would be in your startinng 22 that you've left out.

Well, 7 or 8 of them would probably be in our best 22, and those 7 or 8 would fit in at the expense of Browne, Siegert and Cunningham because there's also 4 bench spots available.

I was just pointing out the core of our side is very young.

22.24 V 22.3. There's really not much in it.

Next year we most likely not have McIntosh in the list, which will lower our average again.

Assuming through some miracle our players don't age... ;)

Just out of interest, what do you reckon the Eagles best 22 looks like?

Impossible to answer, given that atm, our best 22 is always going to be dictated by matchups, form, etc etc

Assuming a complete ignorance of things like potential, no injuries, and letting the opposition worry about matchups, imo i reckon it'd be something like-

F:Matera Wilson Sampi
HF:Chick Jakovich Jones
C:Fletcher Cousins Embley
HB: Hunter Gaspar Green
FB: Collica McIntosh Wirrpunda
R: Gardiner Kerr Judd

Int: Cox, Banfield, Morrison, Haynes

Pretty bloody good side. And barring about 3 blokes (Mcintosh, Wilson and Jako) you'd assume all of them are still playing really well in 3-4 years time.

Plenty of time for us to have a really serious premiership tilt for a good period of 3-4 years or so.
