Richmond had picks 1 and 4, Hawthorn 2 and 5 (melb had 3?) in that years Draft, so why are Richmond 2 years behind?

You're under the assumption that Hawthorn and Richmond were a mirror image of each other at the end of 2004. Long way from the truth, though. At that time Richmond had an almost complete lack of quality 20-25 year olds compared to Hawthorn.

You cannot equate the Hawthorn midfield, for example, inherited by Clarkson to that inherited by Wallace at Richmond. The collection of Crawford, Mitchell, Hodge, Osborne, Clarke, Bateman etc were far superior to their equivalent at Richmond of Nicholls, Fleming, Tivendale, Hyde, Krakuoer and Johnson?

Of course we also had Coughlan and Campbell in the midfield, but as we know since then Cogs has been available for little more than a handful of games, and Campbell was only there for a season before retirement. Browny occasionally went in there before his nasty break, but that was pretty it for Richmond circa 2004 as far as onballers went.

Richmond not only have been forced to rebuild a cluster of 18-22 year olds over the last four years, but have had to contend with terrible planning by the previous generation of coach/recruiters in leaving a legacy of substandard middle-age players.

Could have easily got thrashed but had luck like last week with inaccurate kicking by the opponents . Richo run all day to help out in the back, but the forwards were struggling, except for brown for most of the match.

I dont get this comment, Richmond and Hawthorn finished 16th and 15th respectively in 2004.

..for different reasons why West Coast will be 4 years behind. Grow up and give credit where credit is due you muppet.

Your lot proved me wrong. Just about every one of your players showed AFL level hardness tonight and never gave up the ghost. Was the best display of tackling by a Richmond side I've seen in a long time.

Some players have noticeably lifted in the past month and for that you deserve credit.

Can't stand Richmond but respect none the less.

Well done to Richmond, I thought you played a very good high pressure game, In all reality, the result could have gone either way.

Best of luck for next week, a strong Richmond is good for football. :thumbsu:

Hear, hear, It was a great game of footy, and I truly believe if you play like that next week, you could beat the Saints..Well done to the Tigers, you took it up to us..:)

mate im just putting forward a constructive argument on a football blog.....I dont understand why I should be the one to grow up?

and if you bothered reading my above posts before you blindly typed negative words, you will see I did give credit, and I still am...well done tigers....

Watched the game as a neutral observer, must say i think the umpires robbed you blind. Not so much as what free's hawthorn got, more what you didnt eg high tackles holding the ball etc.

imo getting as close as you did basically playing 21-18 at anyone time deserves respect

Oh, don't get me started on the umpires, robbed us of the game, whenever we got close up popped a free kick, and in that last quarter I couldn't count the number of times a Hawthorn player was caught plum holding the ball but no decision.

All I can say is that we are definatly not as bad as been rated, 3 weeks ago it was looking bottom 4, 3 weeks later it could be Top 8, our style of play while frustrating at times is exciting and will get the heart pumping, I love supporting this club and we will have a Premiership very soon.

Thanks for all those who responded to the initial query regarding my post. JTGM, for a variety of tangible (already mentioned) and sometimes intangible reasons sides mature physically and mentally quicker than others. I see in the RFC a side and coaching philosophy at the same stage of development in relation to it becoming a genuine top 4 side as the Hawks in 2006. Now grow up!:)

The Umpires changed the way they were umpiring drastically in the last quarter! I saw 3 HTB decisions in a row on our forward line that would have been paid in quarters 1-3:confused:

Unfortunately umpires subconsciously favour the better team and better players when it comes to paying or not paying free kicks. They shouldn't, but they do. It's a respect and awe thing.

When you're near the bottom, you have to work extra hard to get up the pecking order in facets in life.

Im afraid you have lost me, every team picks up players in the draft?

The Hawks have more players in the core age group, we do not.

Good game by Richmond today. A few things I was some opinions on however is...
1) Richmond over use the handball WAY to much. Created pressure on themselves and i counted numerous times you going into your 50 with a pressured kick that went straight to a Hawks player. More direct footy is required.

2) Inside 50's. Just not enough. Every time you went inside 50 your team looked deadly, just did not get it inside enough.

3) You have a brilliant group of players in your club. BUT some of your players effort tonight was non existent and seam to be along for the ride more then anything.

After all that though your defenders pressured Hawthorn to much in front of goals and where fantastic. They kept what should have been an easy win to Hawks to only 12 points.

Who? I thought they all gave it everything.

I think the handball thing was due to the Hawks pressure.

Can someone fill me in please?
Buddy kicks 1.7. and will still be hailed as the best player in thebusiness.
If Richo kicks 1.7, which to my recollection never has, and he's a spud:confused:

Reasonable observation:thumbsu: Except for that part.

Hanball is evidently part of the game plan. High-risk game unless disposal is very good. Looks like it is here to stay though.

at least one of you Richmond fans understands what went on tonight, an honourable loss could have been a absolute belting . Like the game of Morton, good pick up and Tambling well look as the late great Jack Dyer would have said he is a good ordinary player. Good luck Tigers for the season, definetly improving and Richmond going well is 'good for football'.

i was sitting right next to Mark williams when he had the shot after the siren in the 1st quarter.

YES pressure creates mistakes, which results in more handballs. But the amount of time we brought it onto ourselves was rediculous.
JORDAN MACHMAN CAN NEVER TAKE KICK OUTS - dont care how clean his disposal is, got 5 effective possesions out of 30.

Deledio had another solid game, maturing.
I thought moore has been a real find for us, did great on buddy.

If we keep the same intencity, might just place a bet on us to beat the saints

I didn't mind the over the top handball thing. We were dropping one back to sit in front of Buddy which means there was normally a Hawk spare across our half forward line. The worse thing you can do against a good team is to give them a turnover at half back.. they'll chop you to pieces with good disposal. If there's no target and it will just be a turnover, you may as well hang on to it and have a ball up at half back.. I think that's the idea.

Patronising comments interlaced with delusion. What an insightful mix:rolleyes:

How many beers have you had?
You didn't even watch it did you?
Spud.
watch the replay and watch Tambling properly. Actually, watch him normally. everyone else could see he played a blinder (even your own board). why can't you?
Spud. Pffft.

I was there, all I am saying is he is a good ordinary player, if thats a blinder the fine, but it wasn't. I like watching footy as much as you I guess and there will be some players who our fans will find excuses for because we won't fase the truth. Often you judge your team by comparing what players from the opposition would get a game in your team. Tell me the players in the Richmond team today that would get a game in the Hawthorn team today?
