Any discussion about our greatest ever must include Warne-Smith.

Do you mean best player, most influencial club figure?

No doubt Norm Smith has been our most influencial figure in our success. Toss up between Barrassi, Warne Smith and Robbie as our best players, with Hassa, Cordner, Neitz not far off. Stynes, Lyon, Fanning the next level. All just my thoughts. My favourite of all time Brett Lovett sneaks in on my list- bias included! The big fella Strawbs was a favourite of mine as well.

I think as a player, Barassi was the most influential. Not the most talented, that would be someone like Flower or Warne-Smith you'd think, but the first bloke you would pick in your side and a great captain.

If you had to pick a total club man (player, coach, director, etc...) I think Norm Smith would win.

I don't think there's any such thing as a single "Grestest Dee", only players who were perhaps the best of their era. Given also that most people on this board would appear to be sub-twenty five years old, I don't think there's probably too much knowledge of Melbourne players accross our 150-odd year history to make such a call. The best Melbourne player I have seen in my limited time would probably be Garry Lyon.

I hope you aren't joking about the great man. One of the most exciting to ever pull on the jumper.
And always one of my favourites.
I never saw Barassi play(that I can remember), I grew up with mum screaming FLOWER and he did keep it up, as I grew up and we kept failing.
We all have favourites, who knows who is the greatest.

My top are Flower, McLean, Steins, Jakovich, Tingay, Neitz, Lyon
